June 9, 2011 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release
The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) signed their first player in the rebirth of the franchise. The Wings signed pro soccer veteran Carlos "Chile" Farias to a contract on Monday.
Farias started his professional soccer career when he was selected by the San Jose Clash as a fifteenth round pick in the 1996 Major League Soccer (MLS) inaugural player draft. The Clash waived Farias during training camp prior to the season. Farias then signed with the San Diego Sockers of the Continental Indoor Soccer League where he was named Rookie of the Year.
In 1997 Farias joined the Harrisburg Heat of the National Professional Soccer League. He then signed to play with San Diego Flash for the 1998 season. In 1999 Farias re-joined the San Jose Clash of the MLS. He played in two games and then rejoined the San Diego Clash for the remainder of the 1999 season and the 2000 season. Farias was named to the All-League first team in 1999.
Farias played for the San Diego Sockers indoor team in 2001 and 2002 before being traded to the Baltimore Blast of the MISL prior to the 2003 season. During his first season with the Blast, Farias was named to the All-MISL first team and helped the Blast to the league title. In 2005 he was traded to the St. Louis Steamers of the MISL. That year the Steamers went to the MISL Championship and Farias was named to the All-MISL 2nd Team. In 2006 Farias played for the Detroit Ignition and was traded in 2007 to the Chicago Storm. In 2009 Farias led Monterray, Mexico La Raza to the MISL Championship. Chile was named MVP of the Championship game. Last season, Farias played for the Omaha Vipers of the MISL. He finished the season #4 in the league in scoring.
"We are pleased to have signed someone with the caliber of Chile Farias" said Wings Head Coach LeBaron Hollimon. "He is an exciting player, a player that instantly gives us a chance to be successful. He is a player that our fantastic fan base will enjoy and embrace" Hollimon said.
The Wings will open training camp in mid-October with the first game sometime in November. Season tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling Jeremy at the Hartman Arena Box Office at 316-744-8880.
