Wichita Wings News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) held their first annual Black and Orange Scrimmage tonight at Hartman Arena. The Wings players were broken into two teams, playing a full 60 minute game against each other. Approximately 3,000 fans attended the scrimmage which was free to the public with a canned food donation to the Kansas Food Bank.

"The objective of tonight was definitely executed" says Wings Head Coach LeBaron Hollimon. "The men got their first chance to go through an entire game like situation against each other in preparation for the home opener next week."

Although the final score of the scrimmage may be insignificant (Black beating Orange 18 to 17) the larger point of the scrimmage was an opportunity for the coaches to get one last look at the remaining players trying out for the squad. "We have about 12 guys left to fill 5 remaining roster spots, and this scrimmage was their final test," say Wings General Manager John Blazek. "Based off of two weeks of tryouts and tonight's scrimmage, final roster decisions will be made in the next days." Wings Defender, Larry Inlow, walked away from the scrimmage hungry for more. "It was great having the opportunity to get out there and play in front of the Wichita community for the first time, but more than anything it gets all of us amped for the first regular season game."

Carlos "Chili" Farias, MVP of the MISL two years ago, was also happy about how the scrimmage played out. "The guys played fantastic tonight! I think this team is ready to make some noise on November 3rd."

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the night was the generosity of the Wichita community. Through the incredible charity of the Wings fans, the organization had filled the provided Kansas Food Bank bins in 20 minutes. Within 40 minutes cases of cans blocking the front entrance of Hartman Arena had to be hauled away. "We really want to be a community involved organization, and being able to give back to the community like this is a really unique and incredible opportunity," said Director of Operations Ryan Woodman in an interview with Eyewitness 12 News.

The Wings will begin regular season play at Hartman Arena on November 3rd for their inaugural home opener against the Missouri Comets. The game will kick-off at 7:05pm- season and single game tickets are still available.
