
Wildcats Win Weekend Series Against Avalanche

The Wildcats played two games over the weekend against the Alaska Avalanche. The Cats were able to defeat the Avalanche in both games over the weekend. The Cats walked away with a win on Friday night defeating the Avalanche 5-2. In the game on Saturday the Cats delivered an impressive win and shutout the Avalanche with a final of 4-0. The Wildcats remain in fifth place in the NAHL South Division, but they were able to pick up 4 points in the weekend set.
The Wildcats came away victorious in their first game against the Avalanche on Friday night. They walked away with a win ending in a final of 5-2. The Cats got on the board first by scoring the only goal of the first period. Adam Krefski hit a powerplay goal at the 15:43 mark to give the Cats a 1-0 lead going into the second frame. Michael Hrtus struck next for the Cats hitting a goal at the 8:54 mark of the second period. He was assisted on the goal by Brian Downing. The next goal for the Wildcats came at the 19:31 mark of the second period by Eddie Effinger. Effinger was assisted on the powerplay goal by Adam Cardwell and Kyle Pidde. As the second period came to a close the Cats were up with a decisive 3-0 lead on the Avalanche. The Avalanche scored first in the third period, however, the Cats soon answered back with a goal of their own. Chris Nutini hit the first goal of the period for the Cats at the 11:15 mark, and he was assisted on the score by Ville Aman. Brett Hartung slid one more puck between the pipes with an empty net goal coming at the 19:42 mark of the final period.
The Cats showed up big again in the second game of the weekend meeting and won the game on Saturday with a final of 4-0. The first period started off quietly with neither team getting on the scoreboard. The Wildcats heated up in the second period, however, connecting on three goals while the Avalanche came up scoreless. The first Cats goal of the period was made by Skylur Jameson and assisted by Michael Hrtus and Adam Cardwell at the 3:26 mark. It wasn't long before Kyle Matson slid another puck in the goal for the Cats at the 4:55 mark. He was assisted on the goal by Sean Nealon. Brett Hartung was able to connect on the final goal of the second period at the 8:46 mark and he was assisted on the play by Chris Nutini and Kyle Olson. The Cats built up a 3-0 lead going into the third period. The Cats were able to score the only goal of the final period to give them the 4-0 victory. Mike Schumacher was able to capitalize on the assist by Eddie Effinger and Luke Salazar at the 13:39 mark.
The Wildcats road streak will continue this week as they face the St. Louis Bandits on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Wildcats will then be returning home against the St. Louis Bandits on February 2nd & 3rd and both games will begin at 7:05pm.
