Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
The Wildcats traveled to Illinois this weekend to take on the Springfield Jr. Blues. It was the first time these teams have met this season, and the Cats swept Springfield for the first time in three years while playing on the road. Friday night the Cats defeated the Jr. Blues 4-2 and walked away with a 6-1 victory on Saturday night. The Wildcats currently sit in 5th place in the NAHL South Division with eighteen points, and trail Fairbanks by only one point.
The Wildcats were a little slow getting started on Friday night, as they trailed 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. The Cats came out strong early in the second period though, and would be unstoppable the rest of the game. At the 7:19 mark of the second frame, the Cats would go on a power play and Zach Josepher would capitalize and tie the game. Then, at the 12:20 mark, the Cats would take the lead when Adam Cardwell and Sean Nealon set up Skylur Jameson who would slide the puck past the Jr Blues goalie. Before the second stanza was over, Springfield was able to answer back, and the game would be tied going into the second intermission. The third frame was all the Wildcats as they outshot the Jr Blues 16 to 2. The Cats came out strong, and only four minutes into the period, Ricky Doriott would score an unassisted goal to put the Cats up 3-2. The Wildcats weren't done yet. With only fifteen seconds left in the game, Adam Cardwell would score an unassisted goal to give the Cats the 4-2 victory.
On Saturday night, the Springfield Jr Blues didn't stand a chance as the Wildcats defeated them 6-1. The Cats came out strong and never looked back. Only 5:32 into the game, the Cats were able to take advantage of a powerplay situation when Ville Aman and Skylur Jameson would assist Eddie Effinger to give the Cats the lead that they would hold the rest of the game. Before the period was over, Ville Aman would give the Cats their second goal, and the 2-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. Kyle Mattson would come out during the second frame and slide on past the Springfield goalie at the 5:57 mark. Less than two minutes later the Cats capitalized on another powerplay when Eddie Effinger scored his second goal of the game and gave the Cats a 4-0 lead. The Jr Blues would score their only goal at the 12:23 mark. With no time left in the second stanza, Kyle Pidde put the puck in the back of the net, right before the buzzer, and the Cats led 5-1 going into the second intermission. The lone goal of the third period was scored at the 15:25 mark by Sean Nealon. His goal would seal the deal and give the Cats a 6-1 win. When asked about the games, Coach Meisner said, "Overall, it was a good weekend. We played a tough team in their building and our guys were able to step up".
The Wildcats next home games will be Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25 against Springfield Jr. Blues. The puck drops at 7:05 pm! Also, Friday night is our Thanksgiving special and you can reserve an upper-level seat for only $5.
