Wildcats Battle with Tornado

March 12, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats took on the Texas Tornado this past weekend, playing here on Saturday night, and traveling to Frisco on both Friday and Sunday. These teams have already met four times this month and have two more meetings before season is over. Texas currently sits in second place in the South Division and proved why this weekend, defeating the Cats all three games. The Wildcats currently sit in 5th place in the NAHL South Division and are led in scoring by Adam Cardwell who has 46 points.

It took a while for both teams to get going on Friday night, but after fourteen minutes of play, the Wildcats were able to get on the board first. At the 14:35 mark, Ville Aman slid the puck to Kyle Matson who capitalized on his position, blasting the puck past the Tornado goalie to give the Cats a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. Unfortunately, the Tornado came out strong in the second frame and answered back with three goals of their own. At the 12:20 mark of the third stanza, Luke Salazar scored a powerplay goal to give the Cats their second goal of the game. It proved to be not enough though as Texas put two more goals in during the third period and defeated the Cats 5-2.

The Wildcats were back at the KYC on Saturday night to once again take on the Texas Tornado, but this time in front of their home crowd. The Tornado got on the board first and scored the lone goal of the first period. Then, only 6:44 into the second frame, Sean Nealon took advantage of the powerplay situation, blasting the puck past the Tornado goalie to tie the game. Five minutes later, the Tornado answered back and snuck one past Billick to take the 2-1 lead going into the second intermission. The third stanza had plenty of action with the amount of scoring and penalties that took place. Adam Cardwell netted one for the Cats at the 8:16 mark, off the assist from Michal Hrtus and Skylur Jameson. Then, with a little under two minutes left in the game, the Wildcats went on another powerplay and Joel Sauer was able to capitalize for the Cats. Unfortunately, the Tornado put four goals in during the third frame and walked away with the 6-3 victory.

The Wildcats suffered another disappointing loss to the Texas Tornado on Sunday night by a margin of 3-0. Despite moments of strong play, the Wildcats were never able to put one in the back of the net. It was a tough weekend for the Cats but not one that will keep them down. The Wildcats look to rebound next weekend when they travel to Santa Fe to take on the Roadrunners for a three game stretch.
