Wildcats Announce Training Camp Invitees, Schedule Changes
August 18, 2016 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
The Wildcats have made several changes to their home schedule in order to give fans their best chance to see as much hockey as possible.
A home-and-home is now officially confirmed with the Lone Star Brahmas for a pre-season similarly structured to that of last season's. The Cats will play their first exhibition game at Kay Yeager Coliseum on Saturday, September 3rd at 7:05 pm. Each ticket in the house will be listed at $8 and will likely not go on sale at the box office until September 1st. The Cats will round out the preseason the following Tuesday, September 6th, at NYTEX Sports Centre.
It has become clear over time that Sunday night games are typically not ideal for fans in Wichita Falls. As a result, the first home series of the regular season has been changed. Rather than having a three-game home stand against Corpus Christi from Friday to Sunday, the Cats will host the IceRays starting on Thursday, September 15th and the series will end on Saturday the 17th.
With the above point being made, the next change on the schedule may not make much sense upon first glance. A home game against Odessa scheduled for Friday, September 30th has been shifted to Sunday, October 2nd. The sole purpose behind this change is to give fans a chance to see both the Wildcats game and the Rider vs. Old High football game on Friday night. A huge portion of the Wildcats fan base attended one of those two high schools, and it would be unfortunate to force them into choosing between one game and the other.
The final change to the schedule involves the second weekend of March. A Wednesday night game scheduled with the IceRays has been moved to Thursday night, thereby creating another three-game home stand against Corpus Christi. Not only will this move make travel easier on the Rays, but it also avoids having a game on a church night for fans.
The Wildcats hope with these changes, fans will have as many opportunities as possible to watch what should be another exciting season of Wildcats hockey!
