LAST TIME OUT:
GHOSTRIDERS 52, SPARTANS 37: Paul Sharpe rushed for 97 yards and four first-half touchdowns as the Osceola Ghostriders beat the Augusta Spartans, 52-37, in a World Indoor Football League game before 2,146 at IOA Field at Silver Spurs Arena Saturday, February 24, 2007. Sharpe, a former Florida A&M standout, tied the Ghostriders' single-game touchdown mark as Osceola opened up an early two-touchdown lead. Augusta (1-1) closed to 32-27 at halftime, but the Osceola defense held the Spartans without a touchdown until 2:58 remaining. Former UCF quarterback Brandon Sumner threw for 73 yards and two touchdowns for the Ghostriders. James Panui had four catches for 40 yards. Sharpe garnered the game offensive MVP honor, while Turmarian Moreland ( three tackles, one interception) earned defensive honors. Defensive lineman Harvey Joiner was the line MVP while Luther Huggins (147 yards on three returns) took Special Teams MVP. Osceola was awarded 223 style points and Augusta 82.
LIONS 45, THUNDER 42: Andrew McKay's 11-yard touchdown pass to Damian Daniels with 27 seconds left gave the Columbus Lions a 45-42 victory over the Daytona Beach Thunder in a World Indoor Football League game before 1,447 at DBCC Public Broadcasting Field 15 at the Ocean Center Monday night. The Thunder had a chance to tie it at the buzzer, but Carlos Ojdea's field goal attempt was blocked. Daytona Beach had taken a 42-37 lead on Bo Bartik's 20-yarder to Cory McKinney with 3:09 left. McKay overcame four interceptions to finish with 178 yards and five touchdowns. Bartik had 260 yards and five touchdowns, four to McKinney
NOTES: Gibson was 5-2 in the Columbus Civic Center last season with the now-defunct Chattahoochee Valley Vipers of the American Indoor Football League ... Osceola was 1-5 on the road last year as a member of the National Indoor Football League ... Both teams are loaded with back-yard talent - Eight Ghostriders played at Orlando's UCF and two more are Kissimmee products ... The Lions feature 10 former local players and six former stars from Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech ... NO KICKS: Though the last two games had a least one field goal made, the WIFL is a combined 2-16 on 3-point tries.
