WIFL features best rushers in one game, top receivers in another
April 26, 2007 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2) News Release
The second half of the World Indoor Football League's inaugural season begins with one game featuring the league's two top rushers and the other featuring the two leading receivers.
The Augusta Spartans (4-3) make their third trip to Daytona Beach Saturday night to face the Thunder (1-6) while the Osceola Ghostriders (4-3) host the Columbus Lions (5-2) in a key match-up Sunday afternoon.
Spartans WR Marvin Stone is in command of the league's scoring and receptions leads over Daytona Beach's Cory McKinney as they meet for the third time.
Stone has 53 catches for 646 yards and 18 touchdowns in addition to one kickoff return TD. McKinney has 41 catches for 665 yards and 12 TDs. The Thunder did hold Stone scoreless in their 42-26 victory over the Spartans on March 31.
A victory would extend the Spartans' winning streak to three, and that would be the longest in the league this season.
Over in Kissimmee on Sunday, Columbus' Eugene Goodman will try to hold on to his rushing lead as.well as help the Lions' maintain their lead in the WIFL standings.
After being shut down by Augusta last week, Goodman's lead over Terrance Bunting is just three yards, 255-252.
Osceola has lost the first two meetings to Columbus by a combined four points. A setback here would put the Ghostriders in dubious position in tiebreaker situations.
Audiocasts for both games will be available on www.wifl.ezstream.com.
