Wichita Wings News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) will begin their 2012-2013 campaign with a two-game series against the Missouri Comets in opening weekend play for the MISL. The two games, scheduled for Friday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 4th, will undoubtedly spark excitement as the two clubs continue their fierce rivalry.
The Wings will travel to Independence, Mo., home of the Comets, on Friday, November 2nd for the first game of the weekend double-header. Kick-off for Friday's game is set for 7:35 p.m. (CST) at the Independence Events Center. Following Friday night's game, the Wings will return to Hartman Arena for their season home opener on Sunday November 4th, with a scheduled kick-off time of 3:05 p.m. (CST).
With the home opener also come memories of the Wings' home opener against the Comets last year. In that match, Wichita fell to the Comets in overtime; final score of 16-14. Wichita played Missouri in a total of six games last season, winning two.
New additions to the Wings' roster will be crucial to bolster both the squad and their win record over Missouri this season. Reigning League MVP and former Comets player, Geison De Carvalho Moura (pronounced Jason), native to Brazil, joins the Wings for the 2012-2013 season. Geison was a leading scorer for the Comets both of his last two years with Missouri, helping take the Comets to back-to-back playoff berths. Last year, Geison totaled an astonishing 90 points off of four three-point goals, 33 two-point goals and 12 assists. Wichita has also added fire power to their squad with the additions of Midfielder Tiguinho (out of Missouri), Midfielder Miguel Ferrer (formally with Norfolk), Forward Andrew Hoxie (out of Rochester) and others. Along with several returning players, the Wings will look to make a statement this weekend against an always competitive Comets team.
Key matchup : Offensive Fire Power
Both clubs have the ability to score in abundance and both clubs have outstanding Goalkeepers to back them up. Missouri will likely rely heavily on Vahid Assadpour for production while trusting their always steadfast Goalkeeper Danny Waltman in the net. Beyond Geison, Wichita will need solid performances from the likes of Jamar Beasley, Miguel Ferrer, Goalkeeper Sanaldo and others if they look to walk away with victories.
Keep an eye on : Wings Forward Geison
Returning to play against his former club for the first time, Geison will be looking to make a statement as well as and a second run at the MISL Most Valuable Player. For Geison and the rest of the Wings, it all begins Friday night.
