Whitey Jordan named Fire offensive coordinator as Hall returns to Penn State

Published on February 18, 2004 under National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release

RONALD 'WHITEY' JORDAN has been named as the new offensive coordinator of the Rhein Fire as he heads into his sixth season on the team's coaching staff.

Jordan replaces former Fire head coach GALEN HALL, who will not return to the Fire as anticipated after accepting a position at Penn State, one of America's most famous college football programs. Hall, a former Penn state player, has signed a three-year deal with the Nittany Lions to become offensive coordinator under coaching legend Joe Paterno.

Jordan is a long-time ally of Hall, working with him during the former Fire head coach's first stint with the team. He had previously served as offensive coordinator at the University of Florida during Hall's six-year tenure as the Gators' head coach.

Jordan is in his sixth year with the Fire, having left in 2001 before returning as offensive line coach under head coach PETE KUHARCHEK in 2003.

NFL Europe League Senior Director of Football Operations NICK POLK said: "Whitey Jordan is an outstanding candidate to take up this post. He has a great deal of experience as a coach in the college and professional ranks and is a popular member of the Fire organisation. We are very confident that he will be extremely successful as the team's new offensive coordinator."

Hall, who led the Fire to three World Bowl berths during his six seasons as head coach (1995-2000), is a former Penn State quarterback. He lettered from 1959-61 and helped Penn State earn a 15-6 combined record in 1960-61, including victories in the Liberty and Gator Bowls.

"Penn State is the only collegiate situation I would consider and I really look forward to being back on campus," said Hall.

Polk added: "I know that our NFL Europe fans, especially those at the Fire, would have enjoyed seeing Galen back in 2004. However, we understand that the opportunity to return to work at Penn State, the school where he played college football, was very appealing. We wish him every success in his career there."
