
Whitecaps sign midfielder/forward

Vancouver Whitecaps Director of Soccer Operations, Bob Lenarduzzi, announced today that the Whitecaps have signed free agent midfielder/forward David Testo through the 2007 season. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"David is capable of playing a number of positions in the midfield and has good attacking qualities," said Whitecaps head coach Bob Lilley. "He possesses solid pace, strength and creativity."
Testo, 25, enters his first season with the Caps and his second in the USL, having previously played with the Richmond Kickers in 2003. In 2005, the 5'10", 165-pound native of Arden, North Carolina played in Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Columbus Crew. He appeared in 17 games, 12 as a starter, and he contributed one goal and three assists. During the 2004 season, his first MLS campaign, Testo appeared in 16 games, recording one assist. Testo was acquired by the Crew as a discovery player on a loan from the Kickers in 2003.
While with the Richmond Kickers, Testo received the United Soccer Leagues First Division Rookie of the Year award, notching six goals and two assists for 14 points. From 2002 to 2004, Testo was a regular member of the US U-23 National Team.
In college, Testo played at the University of South Carolina Gamecocks before transferring to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for his final two years. In 2001, Testo won the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship with the Tar Heels and was a second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. He finished his college career with 74 points, tallying 24 goals and 26 assists.
