Whitecaps FC Trade Sánchez and Steele

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club have traded midfielders Ricardo Sánchez and Jonathan Steele to FC Tampa Bay for future considerations.

Sánchez, 28, joined Whitecaps FC on November 18, 2009, following stints with former United Soccer Leagues First Division clubs Minnesota Thunder and California Victory. In 13 United States Soccer Federation Division-2 Professional League (USSF D-2) regular season matches and three Nutrilite Canadian Championship (NCC) games this season, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound midfielder scored one goal in 454 minutes of action. Prior to his move to the Victory, the native of Guadalajara, Mexico, played professionally with seven different clubs over six years in his home country.

Steele, 24, signed with Whitecaps FC on December 23, 2009, after spending the two previous years with Puerto Rico Islanders. This season, the 6-foot, 165-pound midfielder has played in 12 USSF D-2 matches and three NCC games for 844 minutes of action. The native of Larne, Northern Ireland, has also played for Rochester Rhinos and Carolina RailHawks, as well as former USL-1 club Syracuse Salty Dogs.

North American Soccer League (NASL) Conference leading Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7W-2L-8D) return to Swangard Stadium this Thursday, July 22, to battle Pacific Northwest rivals and Major League Soccer expansion cousins Portland Timbers (6W-5L-5D).
