Whitecaps draw Impact 0-0

Vancouver Whitecaps News Release

MONTREAL, QC - Vancouver Whitecaps extended their undefeated streak to three games following a goalless draw at Canadian rivals Montreal Impact.

Played in very wet conditions, Montreal's brand-new Saputo Stadium was christened with an open and entertaining contest between Canada's two USL First Division clubs, even though a game-winning goal proved too elusive for both sides.

Whitecaps goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic and his counterpart in Montreal shot-stopper Matt Jordan were equal to any efforts that were thrown at them during the soggy 90 minutes of action in Quebec. The shutout was Djekanovic's fourth clean sheet in five league games, as he helped his side earn four points from a productive two-game road trip this Victoria Day long weekend.

Playing for the first time in their away strip of all blue, Whitecaps head coach Teitur Thordarson made three changes to the side that started Friday's 1-0 win at Miami FC Blues. Vicente Arze replaced Justin Moose on the right wing, while Tony Donatelli came in for the suspended Nicholas Addlery in attack. Diaz Kambere, meanwhile, replaced Takashi Hirano at left fullback after the Japanese star had picked up a knock in south Florida.

Impact head coach Nick De Santis, meanwhile, made one change from the starting XI that played in last Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Charleston Battery. Charles Gbeke replaced Severino Jefferson in the Montreal attack, as he partnered former Whitecaps hit-man Joey Gjertsen up front. Former Vancouver midfielder David Testo also started in midfield for the home side.

Despite the excitement of opening their new stadium, Monday's festivities were literally dampened by heavy rains that left both sets of players - not to mention a good portion of the committed spectators - completely soaked. It also saw the Impact needing to use their floodlights in the dark overcast skies from kick-off.
