Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
The season has come to a close for the Whitecaps Men's and Women's teams, but the youth development side has kicked into high gear with the Academy set to start and five Whitecaps Super-Y teams preparing for North American Championships in November.
The club is also expanding its youth coaching staff. In addition to Youth Technical Director Tony Fonseca, the club has hired Carlo Corazzin and Andrea Neil in Head Coaching positions for the boys and girls academy and Super Youth team programs. This is the first time in club history the club has signed active players to full- time coaching positions.
Youth Programs At Record Levels
Whitecaps youth programs are enjoying an increase in participation at every level from clinics to camps to the academy. The summer camps program finished its first year under the Whitecaps umbrella, selling out in many communities and setting new records for participation. Over 400 youths will begin phase one of the academy program this fall, an increase of 300 participants from 2003.
The additions of Corazzin and Neil will not only benefit youths participating in Whitecaps programs, they will also play a significant role in improving the organization's overall club model as the club prepares to move its training grounds to the Whitecaps Training Centre at SFU, effective this November.
