What's On Tap

February 22, 2009 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release

Huntsville Stars fans, we're under seven weeks until Opening Day. Here's a quick down-and-dirty of what's new for 2009:

- Individual game tickets will go on sale this Wednesday, February 25th. The ticket office on the ground floor will be open this week Wednesday - Friday and then reopen again next Monday, March 2nd. On March 2nd the ticket office will remain open daily thru Opening Day. Fans will no longer have to come up to the 2nd floor to purchase game tickets. We will have the ticket office hours available in our next newsletter.

- Every Tuesday this season will be 2-4-Tuesday, sponsored by Tunica Convention & Visitor's Bureau. When you purchase a ticket at regular price for a Tuesday game you will receive a second ticket free of charge. This offer is not applicable with group or other discounts. The folks in Tunica will also have some opportunities to win some great prizes this summer, including a car. We'll get you all the details as we progress.

- Those fans that wish to bid on game-worn jerseys should make plans to attend the game on Friday, August 7th. On that night we will conclude the bidding on the Huntsville Stars game-worn blue alternate jerseys for the Redstone Federal Credit Union's fundraiser. Bidding will begin in mid-July and end at the bottom of the 7th inning on August 7th. These are the blue alternate jerseys that were worn last season. If you're interested in getting one of these jerseys, get August 7th on your calendar. All jerseys will come with a Letter of Authenticity listing all of the players that have worn each jersey.

- Last season we had a meatloaf cook-off; this season we're looking for creative bakers with our 25th Anniversary Cake-Off competition. Those of you with true culinary talent may want to enter this contest and present your best tasting and looking cake in our Cake-Off Night on Saturday, June 13th. Yes, there will be a sweet prize for the winner.

- Jimmy Buffet fans will want to be here on Saturday, July 25th for Parrothead Night. Good music and all the parrothead madness. Get out the flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts. Our staff will get you lei'd when you walk in the gate and we'll party into post-game. Somebody on our staff will surely contact Hostess to see if they want to provide sponge cake for everybody.

- On Friday, June 26th, we'll have our inaugural Pay-What-You-Weight Night as part of a YMCA Appreciation Night. It's essentially the halfway point until New Year's Day when you'll promise to start a new diet which you'll only break a few days later. We decided to design a promotion where Stars fans could get together six months in advance and lose weight as a group, hence, the creation of PWYWN. It's like Spring Training for weight loss. A shakedown cruise, if you will. Fans that wish to participate will step onto a scale and then be sold a ticket at a penny a pound of body weight. If you choose to join the Stars Weight Loss Group you can also talk to a YMCA staff member about sensible programs that the local YMCA offers. For those that wish to participate, the weight you lose during this program will be deducted from the cost of your individual season ticket on New Year's Day 2010. That's a great reward to getting healthy and an incentive to eat right thru the holidays this next winter. Think about that; if you drop 25 pounds you'll save $25 on your season ticket next year. If you're like me you'll start thinking about more than the 25 pounds. There is strength in numbers and having a Stars Weight Loss Group is a great way to get some morale and added support. Those that wish to participate should consult their personal physicians before beginning any weight loss and/or exercise program.

- There are a lot of things that are still in the works but aren't yet final. A couple of these promos are: Baseball Card Set Giveaway Night, Wienie Wednesdays (two hot dogs for $2 every Wednesday),a MDA Fundraiser including a daytime Poker Run/Harley-Davidson Night at the Ballpark, complete with pre-game parade of motorcycles and a 1985 (25th Anniversary) Night.

Make sure you check the complete promotional schedule at http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/promotions/index.jsp?sid=t559

The promotional schedule is subject to change without notice.

Season Ticket Holders, your season tickets will be ready for pick-up beginning this Wednesday. You will need to stop by the 2nd floor at the stadium thru the end of this month or at the Box Office in March or April and sign for your tickets and cards. Your balance must be paid in full to pick up your tickets and Season Ticket Holder card.

That's it for today. Have a great week, everybody.
