Weekend Preview
January 28, 2016 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Philadelphia Rebels News Release
This weekend will see the Rebels take on the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights in a 3-game series - 1 away game and 2 home games. These two teams met two weeks ago and played a tight game that saw the Rebels lose in overtime. The Eastern Division's first place Rebels (47 points) will be looking to take advantage of the division's fourth place team in the Knights (31 points) this time around, to help widen the distance between them and the East's second place New Jersey Knights (44 points). With a possible 6 points on the line for the Rebels, you can expect them to do everything in their power to prove to the Knights why they hold first place.
Which Knights to Watch
Wilkes-Barre Scranton's last game was a thriller in which 13 goals total were scored. Blake Busch netted three points that night (1 goal, 2 assist) which added to his 21 points on the year. Busch has been playing exceptionally lately, and the Rebels should keep their eye on him throughout the series this weekend, as he will certainly pose a threat whenever he touches the ice. Forward Brenden Brown also will be a player that the Rebels will have to do their homework on, as he leads the Knights in goal scoring with 15 on the year. If the Rebels can successfully shut down these two, then they should have no problem finding themselves in the win column.
Rebels being Recognized
Colton McMenamin's four points against the Titans last week saw him recognized as the NAHL's Eastern player of the week this week - Colton undoubtedly will be looking to continue piling up the points this weekend against the Knights. Darion Hanson's .50 GAA and .976% save percentage saw him named the second star of the week this week. Hanson was also named to participate in the NAHL's top prospect tournament, along with his teammates Dean Balsamo, Ryan Cusin, Gvido Janson, and Jerry Miettuten. The five top prospects have been having outstanding years and will now be rewarded for it - expect these five to continue to push the envelope as the Rebels head towards the playoffs.
