Weekend 2 Recap for MLL Players in NLL

December 9, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston - The second weekend of the NLL season brought forward a handful of the MLL's players who found themselves to be in action during this weekend's games. With all three of the weekend's games being played on Saturday, there were plenty of entertaining match-ups to check in on throughout the night.

The first match of the weekend between the Halifax Thunderbirds and New York Riptide turned into a lopsided affair quickly as the Thunderbirds jumped out to a massive lead, scoring eight unanswered goals to start the game with the eighth coming only 35 seconds into the second quarter. Kyle Jackson of the Boston Cannons found himself on the winning end of this one-sided contest which ended up finishing 12-4 in favor of the Thunderbirds. The third year midfielder out of Michigan contributed to the cause as he finished with a goal and two assists along with a plus five rating on the night.

On the other side of the match-up, Dallas Rattlers midfielder Ryan Fournier joined many of his Riptide teammates in having a game to forget to start off the new NLL campaign. Fournier racked up over twenty minutes of time on the field during the game and recorded a secondary assist on New York's second goal which came when the game was already well out of hand in the second quarter.

The other two matches on Saturday evening were much tighter than the first, starting with the New England Black Wolves 12-8 victory over the Toronto Rock. One of the main contributors on the night for the Black Wolves was attackman Andrew Kew who finished his rookie season for the Chesapeake Bayhawks with 28 points and an MLL Championship in early October. In Saturday's showdown, Kew played the role of distributor as he finished with three assists for his team in the victory. With Toronto having come back from a 7-4 deficit, Kew scored the eventual game-winning goal as he gave the Black Wolves a 9-8 lead halfway into the third quarter.

In the final matchup of Saturday's NLL games, the Buffalo Bandits defeated the San Diego Seals in a tight match that remained within a two goal margin until the Bandits' scored with only 15 second left in the game to give them a three goal lead. In the loss, the Seals' attackman Zack Greer helped keep his team in the game as he finished with a pair of goals on eleven shots to go along with three assists. The Rattlers attackman's first goal gave the Seals their only lead of the game when they took an 8-7 lead with less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The NLL will return to action next weekend with four matches set for Saturday, December 14 as the MLL's reigning MVP Lyle Thompson is set to go against Kevin Crowley and the Philadelphia Wings.
