FRIDAY'S GAMES

CINCINNATI 58, Louisville 52 (Attendance: 5,583): Wide receiver JAMES SCOTT caught five touchdowns, leading the Swarm (3-2) past the Fire (2-3). For the third straight game, MIKE MILLS recorded an interception and JIM JONES returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the first-place Swarm. Jones had two touchdown returns in the game.

Richmond 59, GREENSBORO 52 (Attendance: 2,022): Offensive specialist DAMON RICHARDSON tied an af2 record with 18 receptions, totaling 225 yards and five touchdowns for the visiting Speed (2-2). Speed quarterback ROY JOHNSON completed 26-of-36 for 326 yards and seven touchdowns and he rushed for two more scores. The Prowler's (3-2) BOBBY SIPPIO, last week's Ironman of the Week, returned the opening kickoff 56 yards for touchdown.

QUAD CITY 55, Peoria 52 (Attendance: 5,331): In his first game at offensive specialist since last season, IRA GOOCH (game MVP) caught 11 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns to lift the Steamwheelers (3-2) over the Pirates (1-4). Steamwheelers' quarterback TONY ZIMMERMAN went 22-of-30 for 317 yards and seven touchdowns.

SATURDAY'S GAMES:

ROCHESTER 37, Mohegan 34 (Attendance: 2,047): Quarterback KEVIN CARTY found MARTINO THEUS for an eight-yard scoring strike with 28 seconds left in the game as the Brigade (1-4) edged the Wolves (3-2). Rochester led 27-0 at the half before Mohegan scored 28 unanswered points to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Charleston 56, COLUMBUS 40 (Attendance: 2,995): Defensive specialist DEMONT SMITH intercepted three passes, including one which he took back 52 yards for a score, helping the Swamp Foxes (2-3) contain Columbus (2-2). Quarterback JOHN TURMAN led the Swamp Foxes' offense to its most productive output of the season, completing 18-of-33 passes for 223 yards and five touchdowns.

CAPE FEAR 56, Norfolk 49 (Attendance: 4,503): Wildcats' (3-1) quarterback BRYAN SNYDER found offensive specialist MATT BURNSTEIN for a nine-yard touchdown with 19 seconds left in the game to give the Nighthawks (2-2) its second loss in as many weeks. Norfolk offensive specialist TRAVIS BURNS led all receivers with 11 catches for 164 yards and one touchdown.

Albany 68, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 49 (Attendance: 5,419): Game MVP RYAN VENA completed 28-of-32 passes for 285 yards and eight touchdowns, helping the Conquest (3-1) improve to 4-0 all-time against the Pioneers (1-4). Vena also rushed for a score and he tossed touchdowns to four different receivers, including three to ADRIEL LINYEAR.

Birmingham 38, FLORIDA 35 OT (Attendance: 4,589): Kicker RHETT GALLEGO (game MVP) nailed a 47-yard field goal as time expired and then hit a 35-yarder in overtime, helping the Steeldogs (3-2) slip past the Firecats (2-3). Florida'a CAINON LAMB led all receivers with 12 receptions for 152 yards and one touchdown.

MACON 62, Arkansas 49 (Attendance: 2,720): Game MVP JACQUES RUMPH'S touchdown return of a missed field goal at the close of the third quarter shifted the momentum for the Knights (4-1). Rumph also added a receiving touchdown with 9:01 left in the game, putting the Knights up for good. Arkansas wide receiver LENNIE JOHNSON became the second player in af2 history to score 500 points when he caught a 28-yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter.

Tulsa 61, MEMPHIS 57 (Attendance: 2,215): CRAIG STRICKLAND'S 12-yard touchdown toss to GREG TAYLOR with 38 seconds left in the game was the difference for the Talons (4-1) over Memphis (1-4). Tulsa's MITCH ALLNER became the third player in af2 history to score 500 points with a 30-yard touchdown grab on the first play of the second quarter. Allner had three touchdowns and a safety on the night. Memphis' KEVIN PRENTISS caught nine passes for 192 yards and six touchdowns.

TENNESSEE VALLEY 33, Bossier City 21 (Attendance: 4,564): Ironman of the game JERRIAN JAMES caught one touchdown and rushed for another as the Vipers (4-0) remained the league's only unbeaten team. Quarterback SHERARD POTEETE rushed for two touchdowns for the Battle Wings (2-3).

WICHITA 36, Hawaii 29 (Attendance: 6,549): Offensive specialist MICHAEL DRITLEIN returned Hawaii's game-winning field goal attempt 57 yards for a touchdown, propelling the Stealth (4-1) into sole possession of first place of the West division. NIAN TAYLOR grabbed 10 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown for the Islanders (3-2).

San Diego 49, BAKERSFIELD 35 (Attendance: 4,524): The Riptide (3-2) used a missed field goal and an interception return for scores to beat the Bakersfield Blitz (1-4) for a fourth straight time. Game MVP KANE CLAUNCH tossed three touchdowns to three different receivers on 15-of-24 passing for 160 yards. He also added 25 yards on the ground. BRIAN BERG'S 48-yard interception return ended the final Bakersfield threat.
