Omaha, NE - Week 17 completes our regular season. The weekend had the Beef and the Ice go down to the wire; the Horsemen and Greyhounds race to the end, the Rage and the Bandits have a river rumble, the Extreme defeat the BlueCats and the Storm beat the Outlaws.
LEXINGTON 47, OHIO VALLEY 40
At Lexington, KY
The Lexington Horsemen defeated the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 47-40 Saturday at Rupp Arena. The Horsemen were led by RB Rayshawn Askew and DB William Mulder. Askew rushed for 62 yards, caught two passes for seven yards and had a hand in four total touchdowns (three rushing and one passing) to lead the offense. Defensively, Mulder made four tackles, returned an interception 48 yards to set up a touchdown and broke up a pass. Leading the way for Ohio Valley were RB Keith Brooks and DE Jeffrey Candler. Brooks rushed 18 times for 124 yards; he also caught a pass for five yards. Candler made six total tackles (one for loss). Lexington continues their season Sunday as they head to St. Charles, MO to take on the RiverCity Rage in the first round of the UIF Playoffs. Ohio Valley finishes the season 2-13.
BLOOMINGTON 48, EVANSVILLE 31
At Evansville, IN
The Bloomington Extreme defeated the Evansville BlueCats 48-31 Saturday at Roberts Stadium. With the win, the Extreme earned a split in the season series against the BlueCats. QB Steve LaFalce and DB Terrill Mayberry led the way for Bloomington in the victory. LaFalce had 133 yards of total offense (33 rushing and 100 passing) and four total touchdowns (one rushing and three passing). Mayberry made 6.5 tackles (one TFL) and a sack, intercepted a pass, broke up two more and recorded a safety. Leading the way for Evansville were DB AJ Bryant and RB Ray Kirkley. Kirkley had 89 all-purpose yards (58 rushing and 31 receiving) and a rushing touchdown. Pingston had a team-high 7.5 tackles (two TFL). The Extreme will make their second trip to Rockford, IL on Saturday to face the Rock River Raptors in the first round of the UIF Playoffs. Evansville finishes their season 5-10.
RIVERCITY 45, SIOUX CITY 38
At Sioux City, IA
The RiverCity Rage escaped the Tyson Events Center with a 45-38 win over the Sioux City Bandits Saturday. RiverCity was led by LB Joe Bevis and QB Aso Pogi. Bevis made seven solo tackles (three TFL) and two sacks; he also forced a fumble and broke up a pass. Pogi, who was playing in place of regular starter Anthony Fisher, completed 16 of 29 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns (two to Travis Williams and one to Moses Regular); he also rushed in from a yard out to start the scoring. Sioux City was led by WR/DB B.J. Brown and RB Andre Raymond. Brown played both sides of the ball as he made four tackles (one TFL) and intercepted two passes; he also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Marlin McKinney. Raymond rushed for 53 yards, caught three passes for 43 yards and also returned four kicks for 81 yards. The Rage will head home to the comforts of The Family Arena to host the Lexington Horsemen on Sunday while Sioux City finishes their season 3-12.
SIOUX FALLS 34, BILLINGS 9
At Sioux Falls, SD
The Sioux Falls Storm and the Billings Outlaws will meet on a Saturday evening. The match-up will be the second at the Sioux Falls Arena. Last Saturday, the Storm came back to defeat the Rock River Raptors 34-30. Leading the way for Sioux Falls were DB Justin Landis and RB Sean Treasure. Landis made 6.5 tackles (two TFL) and intercepted a pass. Treasure, who played in place of regular starter Marques Smith, rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns; he also caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown. Leading the way for the Outlaws were RB Anthony Simmons and LB Zach Tune. Simmons had 102 all-purpose yards (nine rushing and 93 on kickoff returns). Tune made eight solo stops and assisted on two more for a total of nine for the game. This week, both teams are in action as the Storm will host the Colorado Ice and the Outlaws welcomes the Omaha Beef in the first round of UIF Playoffs.
OMAHA 43 vs. COLORADO 40
At Loveland, CO
Whoever has the ball last usually wins the game. The old adage was true on Saturday night when the Omaha Beef, behind the leg of Ted Retzlaff, clipped the Colorado Ice 43-40 at the Budweiser Events Center. Leading the way for the Beef were LB Digger Anderson and QB James McNear. Defensively, Anderson made a team-high seven tackles (.5 TFL). McNear had 228 yards of total offense (79 rushing and 149 passing) and all six of the Beef's touchdowns (four rushing and two passing). Leading the way for Colorado were QB Matt Gutierrez, LB Ryan Palmer and K Deric Yaussi. Gutierrez threw for 85 yards and three touchdowns (all to Tim Pope); he also rushed for 15 yards and another touchdown. Palmer made a team-high 7.5 tackles to lead the defense. Yaussi contributed 16 points on four-of-four extra points and four-of-six field goals, including one from 60 yards to set a new UIF record. Both teams will hit the road this weekend with the Beef returning out west to face the Billings Outlaws while the Ice heads east to face the Sioux Falls Storm.
