WEEK 4 RECAPS
FRIDAY, APRIL 22
Louisville Fire 58, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS 50 (Attendance: 4,360)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Matt Sauk completed 26-of-37 passes for 232 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Louisville Fire (3-0) to a 58-50 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (3-1) Friday night at Wachovia Arena. Rob Mager hauled in three of Sauk's touchdown passes, leading the Fire with nine receptions for 86 yards. James Scott and Lawrence Matthews had the other receiving touchdowns, while Tony Stallings added a rushing tally for the Fire. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Kyle Rowley was equally efficient in the losing effort, throwing for 251 yards on 23-of-39 passing for five touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for another tally. Rocco Forgione and J.R. Thomas each caught two touchdowns for the Pioneers. Forgione had a game-high with nine catches for 90 yards. The Louisville Fire are one win away from the best start in team history.
Rio Grande Valley Dorados 40, BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 32 (Attendance: 3,680)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (1-2) outscored the Bakersfield Blitz (1-2) 40-18 the rest of the way to earn their first win of the 2005 season Friday night at Rabobank Arena. Dorados QB Josh Kellet completed 18-of-28 for 144 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers. Dwight Counter led the Dorados with nine grabs for 74 yards and one score. Marquis Floyd's two interceptions and Chris Robinson's two sacks paced the Dorados defensive effort. Eric Mahanke had five receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns for the Blitz.
SATURDAY, APRIL 23
Manchester Wolves 56, ALBANY CONQUEST 49 (Attendance: 4,555)
ALBANY, N.Y. - Jake Eaton's 12-yard touchdown pass to William Ferguson with 1:10 left in the game gave the Manchester Wolves (2-1) a 56-49 won over the Albany Conquest (0-3) Saturday night at Pepsi Arena. The game-winning touchdown was Eaton's seventh of the evening. He completed 24-of-28 passes for 234 yards with one interception. Along with Ferguson, four other Wolves receivers caught touchdown passes. Jamaal Perry led the team with seven catches for 95 yards, while J.J. McKelvey and Marc Bacote each hauled in two touchdown passes. Albany QB D. Bryant passed for three touchdowns and rushed for three more in the loss. Albany's Cy Butler led all receivers in the game with 14 receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for another score.
FLORIDA FIRECATS 42, South Georgia Wildcats 37 (Attendance: 6,139)
ESTERO, Fla. - The defending ArenaCup champion Florida Firecats (4-0) withstood a late South Georgia Wildcats (0-3) comeback to earn a 42-37 win Saturday night at Germain Arena. Magic Benton led the way for the Firecats with six catches for 85 yards and four touchdowns. QB Chris Wallace completed 19-of-30 passes for 121 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. For the Wildcats, QB Bobby Pesavento threw 52 passes with 31 completions and one interception. He totaled 258 yards and five touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns went to LaRico Cole. Cole caught six passes for 55 yards on the night. Teammate Chris McKinney hauled in 12 passes for 118 yards with one touchdown. The Firecats are off to their best start in team history.
GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 28, Macon Knights 18 (Attendance: 4,237)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Blizzards (2-1) defense recorded four interceptions, four sacks, and a fumble recovery in its 28-18 win versus Macon (2-2) - the lowest scoring game in team history. With significant contributions coming from almost every player on defensive, the entire unit was awarded Defensive Player of the Game honors. DaQuan Davis intercepted two passes and Ryan Bowers added one more plus eight tackles. Johnny Turman was efficient under center, completing 21-of-34 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns. Troy mason caught seven passes for 95 yards and two scores to earn Offensive Player of the Game. Lionel Hayes had his toughest outing of the season, completing just 21-of-41 passes for 242 yards and two scores, but was intercepted four times. Chris Johnson hauled in six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Matt Jackson was a statistical leader on defense for Macon, recording six tackles and a forced fumble.
Amarillo Dusters 86, BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS 66 (Attendance: 2,127)
BOSSIER CITY, La. - Julian Reese produced an af2 record performance on offense to lead the Dusters (2-1) to their first road victory at Bossier-Shreveport (0-4) in an 86-66 tilt. Reese completed 27-of-34 passes for 424 yards, nine touchdowns and rushed for an additional 23 yards and two scores. He hooked up with Chavis McCollister 14 times for 193 yards and D.J. Humphries seven times for 145 yards. Tim Hicks, in his first start for the Battle Wings since being traded, completed 18-of-32 passes for 220 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Bo Smith ended the day with 227 all-purpose yards, catching eight passes for 91 yards and returning kicks for 136, including one for a touchdown. The Duster's Charles Davis was ADT Defensive Player of the Game with three tackles, an interception, and two pass breakups. Bossier-Shreveports' Aaron Frazier recorded two tackles and a fumble return of 20 yards.
Memphis Xplorers 60, BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS 24 (Attendance: 4,995)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Memphis Xplorers (4-0) jumped out to their best start in team history with a 60-24 victory at Birmingham (0-3) Saturday night. Kevin Prentiss caught seven passes for 111 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Xplorer's offense. Brian Jones kept up his strong start to the year completing 9-of-15 passes for 136 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 31 yards and two more scores. The Xplorer's defense scored two touchdowns, one on a Dahniel Singfield 50-yard interception return, the other on a Deon Giddens fumble recovery in the end zone. Khrem Smith continued his amazing start to the season with his second three-sack performance of the season. He has nine sacks through four games. Birmingham's offense was led by Detronn Harris with six receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Ray Nelson completed 13-of-34 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted twice. Devlon Holmes recorded an interception for the Steeldogs.
Quad City Steamwheelers 61, OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ 43 (Attendance: 8,544)
OKLAHOMA CITY - Matt Forbes came through with two clutch interception returns for touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help Quad City (2-1) defeat Oklahoma City (2-2) 61-43. Forbes returned the first interception 39 yards for the score, and returned the second endzone-to-endzone for 53 yards with eight seconds remaining. Sam Clemons completed 28-of-39 passes for 327 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the Steamwheelers. Travis Burns led Quad City's receivers with 10 receptions for 110 yards and two scores. Craig Strickland added to his league leading passing yards total with 311 and six touchdowns. Jarrail Jackson increased his league high total of receptions to 35 with 12 for 157 yards and three scores. Jerry McCloud led the Yard Dawgz defense with 10 tackles.
Tulsa Talons 55, SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE 37 (Attendance: 5,011)
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Talons QB Josh Blankenship soared away with seven touchdown passes, five to WR/LB Donovan Morgan, and one rushing giving him Offensive Player of the Game Honors in the 55-37 victory against San Diego (1-2) at the SDG Sports Arena on Saturday night. After a virtual stalemate in the third quarter the Talons (2-1) took off in the fourth with three touchdowns to finish off the night. Despite the score the Riptide defense looked strong with ADT Defensive Player of the Game OL/DL Asi Faoa coming away with 3.5 sacks, a new Riptide single game record. Also, San Diego WR/LB Ryan Smith earned Ironman of the Game honors by hauling in two interceptions to go with his 5 receptions.
CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES 71, Arkansas Twisters 41

FRESNO, Calif. - The Central Valley Coyotes (2-1) scored 30 points in the fourth quarter win their home opener against the Arkansas Twisters (0-3) on Saturday night at the Selland Arena. Coyotes QB Juston Wood had six touchdown passes, three to WR/LB George Williams who was named the Offensive Player of the Game. Twisters QB Chris Windsor threw for five touchdowns and 300 yards but two costly interceptions in the fourth quarter prevented a comeback. ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors went to the Coyotes Joshua Robinson who had 5 tackles and a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown. The U.S. Army Ironman of the Game went to Coyote Anthony Arceneaux for his 3 receiving touchdowns and one interception. Kevin Williams led all Arkansas receivers with 9 receptions for 102 yards and one touchdown.
