Week 2 Preview: Tampa Bay Vipers at Seattle Dragons
February 13, 2020 - XFL (XFL) News Release
NEED TO KNOW
Vipers
Not much went right for the Vipers in a 23-3 Week 1 loss at the New York Guardians. QB Aaron Murray threw two picks and missed much of the second half with an injured foot, leaving his status for Saturday uncertain. Backup Quinton Flowers provided a spark in the second half, mostly on the ground, and has taken first-team reps this week.
WR Dan Williams (123 receiving yards) and RB De'Veon Smith (79 rushing yards) are first and second, respectively, in those categories.
Dragons
The Dragons have reason for optimism going into their home opener despite losing at the DC Defenders.
Seattle outgained the Defenders (310-295 in yardage) and tallied more first downs (19-13). Plus, legendary CFL WR SJ Green joined the team this week, giving QB Brandon Silvers another weapon. Silvers (ankle) missed practice earlier this week but should start.
Head coach Jim Zorn's squad has plenty to clean up from Week 1, namely two interceptions (including one TD return), a fumble, blocked punt (also scooped up for a TD) and 68 penalty yards. A crowd of around 30,000 is expected at CenturyLink Field.
