FRIDAY'S GAMES
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 48, Richmond 33 (Attendance: 4,513): The Pioneers (5-7) outscored the Speed (5-7) 20-0 in the final quarter to come back from behind and earn the season sweep over Richmond. QB CHRIS BODEN passed for three touchdowns and ran two more, including the go-ahead rushing tally early in the fourth quarter. TERRELL JOHNSON caught two of Boden's touchdown strikes, totaling 55 yards on six catches. The Pioneers' defense sacked Richmond QB ROY JOHNSON four times. KYLE GROVE registered three tackles in his first game back since returning from NFL Europe.
Memphis 56, Bossier City 35 (Attendance: 3,023): QB ROD ROBINSON passed for five touchdowns to lead the Xplorers (5-7) past the Battle Wings (3-10). TERRELL ADAMS caught eight passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns for the Xplorers, while VAL MORRIS paced Bossier City with 12 grabs for 104 yards and two scores. The Xplorers' defense tallied five sacks of Bossier City QB PEYTON PERRETT and held him to 182 yards passing.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
ALBANY 60, Mohegan 36 (Attendance: 5,578): After a close first half, the Conquest (10-2) outscored the Wolves (8-4) 40-15 in the rest of the way to increase its lead to two games in the Northeast Division. QB RYAN VENA passed for seven touchdowns, including three to PHIL TAYLOR. Taylor had six catches for 141 yards to Albany's receivers. Mohegan's MEL LONG grabbed 10 passes for 161 yards and four scores to lead all receivers.
GREENSBORO 59, Norfolk 52 (Attendance: 2,356): Game MVP BOBBY SIPPIO caught six passes for 138 yards and five touchdowns as the Prowlers (5-7) topped the Nighthawks (6-6). Greensboro QB CALEB SLOVER completed 15-of-22 for 280 yards and eight touchdowns, out-dueling the tandem effort of CHRIS WALLACE and AARON SPARROW who combined for 350 yards passing and five touchdowns for the Nighthawks. TRAVIS BURNS hauled in 13 receptions for 191 yards and four touchdowns to lead Norfolk, who has lost four of its last five.
ROCHESTER 46, Columbus 45 OT (Attendance: 2,311): Game MVP MARTINO THEUS' two-point conversion reception lifted the Brigade (2-11) over the Wardogs (3-9) in an overtime thriller. Theus, who lead Brigade receivers with five catches for 87 yards, caught two of QB JASON VISCONTI'S five touchdown passes. DEREK BAKER also had a touchdown catch for the Brigade to keep pace with the league scoring leaders.
Charleston 58, CAPE FEAR 34 (Attendance: 4,624): Trailing by four points at halftime, the Swamp Foxes (6-6) held the first-place Wildcats (8-4) to six second-half points while scoring 34 of their own en route to a much-needed win. Charleston QB JOHNNY TURMAN completed 20-of-35 passes for 192 yards and five touchdowns to five different receivers. The Swamp Foxes intercepted Cape Fear QB BRYAN SNYDER four times, including two from JOE JUDGE. Snyder, who had only thrown five picks all season prior to this game, threw four touchdowns on 19-of-34 passing for 241 yards.
FLORIDA 50, Macon 48 (Attendance: 5,813): Game MVP KEN MASTROLE completed 23-of-28 passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns to lead the red-hot Firecats (7-5) past the Knights (7-5). CAINON LAMB caught 10 passes for 102 yards and two scores for the Firecats, while ANTHONY SNEAD led the Knights with seven receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns. The Firecats, who have won five straight, have moved into the Wild Card picture with the win.
ARKANSAS 45, Tulsa 29 (Attendance: 7,326): QB RICKY HEBERT connected with TED ALFORD for a 10-yard strike late in the first quarter to become to first QB in af2 history to pass for 200 career touchdowns as the Twisters (7-5) stalled the Talons (10-3) hopes of a division title. DARNELL SMALL rushed for three touchdowns to carry the rest of offensive load for Arkansas. Tulsa's MITCH ALLNER passed WAYNE THOMAS as the all-time scoring leader in af2 history when he caught a 35-yard pass from QB CRAIG STRICKLAND with 43 seconds left in the game.
GREEN BAY 68, Louisville 34 (Attendance: 2,966): Game MVP NATE LEHMAN caught five passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Blizzard (2-10) blew past the Fire (3-10). QB RAMON ROBINSON threw for six touchdowns on 14-of-22 passing, including two strikes to ROBERT GARTH. KEVIN WASHINGTON had two of the Blizzards three sacks. TORREY DAY paced the Fire with five receptions for 53 yards and two scores.
TENNESSEE VALLEY 60, Birmingham 58 (Attendance: 6,827): QB JOSH KELLET, Game MVP, completed 31-of-46 for 417 yards and seven touchdowns but it wasn't enough for the Steeldogs (6-6) to stop the Vipers (12-0). ARYVIA HOLMES (10 receptions, 123 yards) and DEMONTRAY CARTER (5 receptions, 139 yards) each caught three touchdowns for Birmingham. Tennessee Valley QB MATT SAUK also threw seven touchdowns, two each to REGGIE WORTHY, JERRIAN JAMES and RONNEY DANIELS. The Vipers clinched its third straight division title and played before the fourth largest crowd in team history.
San Diego 60, WICHITA 53 (Attendance: 4,958): KANE CLAUNCH completed 16-of-19 passes for 281 yards with six touchdowns for a perfect passer rating of 158.33 as the Riptide (5-8) beat the Stealth (8-5) to break a five-game losing streak. LAMONT WEBB caught seven passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns in the Riptide win. Wichita's MELVIN PHILLIPS hauled in nine balls for 153 yards and two scores to lead all receivers.
BAKERSFIELD 45, Peoria 35 (Attendance: 4,517): Game MVP CHAD ELLIOTT completed 22-of-30 passes for 224 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions as the Blitz (6-7) stayed in Wild Card contention with a win over the Pirates (4-8). JULIAN YEARWOOD, ADT Defensive Player of the Game, tallied two of the Blitz four sacks of QB CHARLIE PETERSON. Peterson threw four touchdowns for the Pirates, including two to CHARLES SHEFFIELD who had four catches for 106 yards.
Quad City 54, HAWAII 36 (Attendance: 4,596): TIM DODGE, Game MVP, caught 10 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns to power the Steamwheelers (10-2) past the Islanders (9-4). The Steamwheelers clinched its third division title in team history and earned the tiebreaker advantage over Hawaii. The game was tied after three quarters before the Steamwheelers went on an 18-0 run in the final frame. Hawaii QB MIKE TILLIS was held to 170 passing yards with four touchdowns.
