FRIDAY'S GAME
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 54, Rochester 53 (Attendance: 4,857): TERRELL JOHNSON'S 11-yard touchdown reception with five seconds left lifted the Pioneers (4-7) over the Brigade (1-11). MARTINO THEUS hauled in a 30-yard bomb for a touchdown at the buzzer, but the Brigade missed the extra point which would have sent the game into overtime. Rochester QB JASON VISCONTI completed 30-of-42 for 389 yards and eight touchdowns. He threw four touchdowns each to DEREK BAKER (12 catches for 175 yards) and Theus (8 catches for 149 yards). Johnson paced the Pioneers with six receptions for 76 yards and two scores.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
NORFOLK 63, Albany 46 (Attendance: 4,235): A duel effort at quarterback helped the Nighthawks (6-5) roll past the Conquest (9-2). Starter AARON SPARROW completed 9-of-18 for 153 yards and one touchdown and CHRIS WALLACE made 6-of-10 for 101 yards and three scores. DALTON ROSS made six catches for 138 yards and one score to lead the Nighthawks. Albany's PHIL TAYLOR had six receptions for 137 yards and three touchdowns.
COLUMBUS 46, Bossier City 32 (Attendance: 3,489): Columbus QB SHERARD POTEETE passed for three touchdowns and rushed for three more scores to lead the Wardogs (3-8) past the Battle Wings (3-9). Poteete, who passed for 307 yards on 31-of-44 passing, threw nine completions to MICHAEL SCOTT including two touchdowns. The Wardogs held the Battle Wings to 97 total yards of offense.
RICHMOND 60, Cape Fear 54 (Attendance: 2,995): ROY JOHNSON'S 17-yard rushing tally pushed the Speed (5-6) past the Wildcats (8-3). For Johnson, who went 21-of-34 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns, the game-winning rushing touchdown was his third running score of the night. DAMON THOMPSON caught 12 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown to lead the Speed. ANTHONY HINES had 10 catches for 167 yards and two scores to pace the Wildcats.
Macon 56, CHARLESTON 46 (Attendance: 4,162): JACQUES RUMPH'S 10 receptions for 92 yards and four touchdowns was too much for the Swamp Foxes (5-6) as the Knights (7-4) moved into second place in the South Division. Charleston QB JOHNNY TURMAN completed 31-of-51 for 350 yards and six touchdowns, while Knights' signal-caller JERMAINE ALFRED threw five touchdowns on 20-of-32 passing for 195 yards.
Florida 68, GREENSBORO 55 (Attendance: 2,227): Game MVP CAINON LAMB caught six passes for 91 yards and three touchdowns as the Firecats' (6-5) offense overpowered the Prowlers (4-7). Prowlers' QB CALEB SLOVER completed 27-of-42 for 330 yards and five touchdowns. BOBBY GRAHAM had 11 catches for 134 yards and two scores, while teammate BOBBY SIPPIO totaled 124 yards on nine receptions with one score. Firecats' QB KEN MASTROLE completed 16-of-27 passes for 208 yards with six touchdowns and he rushed for an additional score.
Memphis 52, LOUISVILLE 40 (Attendance: 7,771): ADRIAN BURNETTE, Game MVP, caught 11 passes for 150 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Xplorers (4-7) through the Fire (3-9). Memphis' defense sacked Louisville QB POOKIE JONES six times, including two times from RON SIMONE. Louisville's ARKEE THOMPSON grabbed his af2 record 26th career interception in the third quarter and earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors in the process.
MOHEGAN 38, Cincinnati 24 (Attendance: 3,686): Mohegan QB ROB HARDING scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run with 4:15 left in the game as the Wolves (8-3) held off the Swarm (4-8). Wolves WR/DB CY BUTLER notched 142 all-purpose yards (115 return yards, 27 receiving yards) on offense and 3.5 tackles on defense, earning Ironman of the Game honors for his efforts. WR/LB KAZMELL MINOTT, Game MVP, hauled in eight-yard touchdown reception in addition to his team-high 4.5 tackles and one fumble recovery on defense. The Wolves, who have won four straight, sit one game behind Albany for the Northeast Division lead.
PEORIA 38, Green Bay 22 (Attendance: 5,475): ERIC JOHNSON had 2.5 of Peoria's five sacks on QB RAMON ROBINSON, as the Pirates (4-7) downed the Blizzard (1-10) with a solid defensive effort. Peoria's JACK WALKER led all receivers with seven catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns. BRYAN ARCHIBALD tallied one rushing touchdown to go with his one sack on defense for Peoria. The Blizzard's NICK JOHNSON was held to one catch for a 23-yard touchdown.
Wichita 57, ARKANSAS 35 (Attendance: 6,877): Game MVP ANTHONY BUICH completed 16-of-28 passes for 210 yards and four touchdowns as the Stealth (8-4) handled the Twisters (6-5). Wichita's BRIAN LIVINGSTON earned Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors. He had three catches for 29 yards and one rushing touchdown on offense, and he had a game-high 9.5 tackles, two forced fumbles and three interceptions on defense. He took one interception back 18 yards for a touchdown.
Tennessee Valley 54, BIRMINGHAM 35 (Attendance: 8,166): QB MATT SAUK, Game MVP, threw seven touchdowns on 23-of-38 passing for 288 yards as the Vipers (11-0) shutdown the Steeldogs (6-5). Sauk threw three touchdowns to RONNEY DANIELS (six catches for 73 yards) and two to Game Ironman JERRIAN JAMES (4 catches for 57 yards). Birmingham QB CHRIS WINDSOR tossed three interceptions before he was lifted in the second half. The Vipers held ARYVIA HOLMES to nine receptions for 105 yards with no touchdowns.
Hawaii 39, SAN DIEGO 38 (Attendance: 5,134): ANTHONY ARCENEAUX'S nine-yard touchdown reception with 45 seconds left carried the Islanders (9-3) past the Riptide (4-8). For the second time in as many weeks, the Riptide had a chance to win with a kick, but missed. RYAN GEISLER'S 33-yard field goal attempt with three seconds left sailed wide left. Hawaii's JOSH WHITE swept the postgame awards, as he tallied three rushing touchdowns on offense and registered six solo tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles on defense.
TULSA 62, Bakersfield 49 (Attendance: 5,198): QB CRAIG STRICKLAND, Game MVP, threw for 262 yards and five touchdowns as the Talons (10-2) extended their af2 record for consecutive regular season home victories to 25 games and avenged last week's 45-40 road loss to the Blitz (5-7). With the win, the Talons clinched a spot in the postseason. MITCH ALLNER'S 45-yard touchdown reception in the first half brought him three points away from the af2 record for most career points. Bakersfield QB CHAD ELLIOTT threw a season-high six touchdown passes and tied a career record with 356 passing yards. RYAN SLOTH posted career highs of 11 receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
