In World Basketball Association action from Friday, April 30, 2004:
JACKSON (MISS.) RAGE 87, KENTUCKY REACH 86: Former Mississippi State product Mario Austin scored 11 of his team's first 25 points and finished with game highs in points (28) and rebounds (13) to lead the visiting Rage (1-0) by the Reach (0-1) in front of a crowd of 1,500.
Jackson, which nearly blew a 17-point lead, also got 15 points from Tulsa product Jason Parker, 10 rebounds and eight points from Alcorn State alum Brian Adams and 14 points and four steals from David Sanders. Sanders, who played at Mississippi State, hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to seal the win.
Former Alabama guard Antoine Pettway scored 20 of his team-high 24 points in the second half for the Reach. LSU product Lamont Roland scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half. Tyrone Levett (Alabama State) had a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) and former Kentucky Wesleyan player Marshall Sanders nearly added another (14 points, nine boards).
RALEIGH (N.C.) KNIGHTS 101, MACON BLAZE 76: In front of a crowd of 2,300, the visiting Knights (1-1) blitzed the Blaze (1-1) by forcing 24 turnovers and grabbing 44 rebounds.
Former UNC-Asheville guard Robby Joyner wowed the crowd with a variety of second-half dunks on his way to a team-high 18 points for the Knights, who led by 31 points with less than four minutes remaining in the game.
Former Marshall guard Ronald Blackshear was his team's leading scorer for the second straight game, scoring 18 points for the Blaze.
SOUTHERN CRESCENT (GA.) LIGHTNING 92, ROME (GA.) GLADIATORS 79: Former Mississippi forward Derrick Allen scored a team-high 17 points as the homestanding Lightning (1-0) cruised by their intrastate rivals (1-1).
Rome, which trailed by as many as 27 points, was led by Loyola-Chicago product Damien McSwine's game-high 21 points. Former Auburn forward Mack McGadney added 20 points and Central Oklahoma alum DeMario Jones netted 13 points.
