Wave sweep player of the month honors

March 8, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH

Nick Vorberg, Milwaukee Wave

Nick Vorberg stood head and shoulders above his MISL goalkeeping peers in February, posting a 6-2 record, 3.01 goals against average, and .805 save percentage. After allowing 10 goals in his first two games of the month (both losses), Vorberg permitted only 14 scores over his final six February starts, all victories. He concluded his month on an especially high note, saving 25 of 29 shots over a two-game span (2/25 and 2/26) in Kansas City against the dangerous Comets' offense. Entering this week, Vorberg is leading the MISL in goals against average (3.72), wins (16), and save percentage (.760). The 30-year-old has already surpassed his 2003-04 totals in every statistical category. Vorberg, a native of Grants Pass, Ore., earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors on February 21 (sharing the award with Kansas City's Sanaldo) and February 28. He was also the league's Goalkeeper of the Month for December.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Chris Morman, Milwaukee Wave

With three consecutive Defensive Player of the Week awards from February 14-28, Chris Morman enjoyed one of the finest all-around months of his career. The 27-year-old backliner posted four goals, 10 points, and 11 blocks in eight games, spearheading a Wave defense that permitted only 24 goals in eight February contests. Highlighting Morman's month were two three-point performances (2/13 and 2/26) and a game-winning goal (2/19 against St. Louis). He also recorded two four-block games (2/20 and 2/26). Morman, a three-time All-Star, is currently third in the MISL with 41 blocks, and is tied for second on the team with 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists). The former four-year starter at the University of South Carolina becomes the second Milwaukee player to be named Defensive Player of the Month this season, joining Troy Dusosky (October).

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Greg Howes, Milwaukee Wave

Greg Howes completes Milwaukee's sweep of February honors. Entering the month, Howes was tied for 16th in the league with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists). As of March 8, the reigning Spalding Scoring Champion had exploded into the MISL lead in both points (46) and goals (27). Like both Vorberg and Morman, his month began quietly, with only one assist through his first three games. But beginning with a three-point night against Philadelphia on February 16, Howes was nearly unstoppable. Including the game on the 16th, Howes posted 13 goals and 19 points over his final five games of the month. He turned in one of the best offensive performances in recent memory on February 25, scoring five goals and eight points (both MISL season highs) in an 8-3 win at Kansas City. Of the 43 goals scored by the Wave in February, Howes was directly involved (goal or assist) in nearly half (20) of them. The native of Tacoma, Wash., was named Offensive Player of the Week on February 28 and again this past Monday (March 7).
