Wave Defeat Ironmen in Saturday Night Contest in Milwaukee

Milwaukee, Wis. - The road continues to be a tough battleground for the New Jersey Ironmen (3-4). In the first contest of a two-game weekend for New Jersey, the Milwaukee Wave (5-3) bettered the Ironmen by a count of 22-12 tonight at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee.
Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg returned to the turf to make his first start of the season for Milwaukee in this Saturday night match-up, playing opposite New Jersey goalkeeper Brett Phillips. Veteran midfielder Goran Vasic put up the first points of the year against Vorberg at 9:55 of the opening frame to give the visiting Ironmen an early 2-0 advantage, but Chico equalized for the Wave at 2:59 to even the tally at two each after the opening 15 minutes of play.
Milwaukee then struck twice at the beginning of the second quarter to go up by four points, 6-2, with midfielder Travis McKenzie scoring at 14:31 and forward Marco Terminesi hitting a two-pointer 23 seconds later. A Chile Farias to Evan McNeley feed at 4:41 brought New Jersey within a single notch, 6-4, and the Chilean playmaker then set up Lucio Gonzaga, the leading scorer in the XSL, at 1:38 to equalize for the Ironmen. After a McKenzie notch at 1:26, the home team took an 8-6 lead into intermission.
New Jersey looked solid at the start of the second half, equalizing at 12:41 on a nice looking volley from defender Rey Martinez to Gonzaga, and then regaining the advantage, 10-8, on an Adauto Neto goal at 11:19. The Wave then answered by railing off three goals to finish the third quarter with a 14-10 edge.
Milwaukee entertained their home crowd in the fourth frame with the only Ironmen knock coming at 3:48 on a Shawn Boney penalty kick. The Wave put a pair of triples and a two-pointer into the back of the net in the period to cap off the 22-12 victory.
The rest of the weekend will not get any easier for New Jersey as they will catch an early flight to Detroit in the morning for a 4:35 p.m. kickoff with the first-place Ignition. Detroit is currently riding a 13-game winning streak on their home pitch. The Ironmen will return to Prudential Center on Sunday, February 8th, for a 1:00 faceoff with the Chicago Storm.
