JUPITER, FL - David Washington's solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning was the difference as the Cardinals beat the Hammerheads 4-3 on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium.

With one out in the eighth and the game knotted at three, the Cardinals' left-handed slugger took a 3-1 pitch from CJ Robinson over the left field fence for an opposite field homer. It was his 13th long ball of the year.

The Sharks would have a chance to tie the game in the ninth when Juan Avila led off with a double down the left field line. Noah Perio would then bunt Avila over to third.

But Jupiter could not drive him in as Anthony Gomez grounded out on a tapper to the pitcher and Ryan Goetz struck out looking to end the game.

The Hammerheads went down 3-0 after a RBI singles by Bruce Caldwell and Washington in the first and another run scoring single by Aledmys Diaz in the second.

Jupiter would begin chipping away in the third when Perio led off with a walk and later scored on a groundout off the bat of Derek Dietrich.

The Sharks would tie things in the sixth when Matt Juengel, Dietrich, Blake Barber and Cody Keefer hit four straight singles.

The score would remain three-all until Washington's tater in the eighth.

Jupiter starter Scott Lyman posted his 10th quality start of the season as he got a no decision in the loss. His line was all sixes and threes: 6 IP 6 H 3 R 3 BB 3 K.

Dietrich, who was playing in his second rehab game with the Sharks, went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. He played six innings at second base.

With the win the Cardinals lead the Fins vs. Feathers series 8-4. The Hammerheads would need to win out the final five games between the teams to capture the 2014 RDS Cup. Palm Beach will be the home team again on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
