Warbirds announce resignation of Head Coach Marcus Coleman

West Texas Warbirds News Release


The West Texas Warbirds are saddened to bring news that, due to extenuating family circumstances, Head Coach Marcus Coleman will no longer be with the organization. In an effort to respect his and his family's privacy, there will be no further details as to the reasoning Coach Coleman decided to stay in San Antonio.

"Over the past couple of weeks, we tried to come up with a solution to allow Marcus to continue coaching here in West Texas" Owner/GM Leif Kertis said. "Marcus wanted to be here and he wanted to stay in San Antonio to be close to his family and accept a role with the San Antonio Valor that allows him to be where he needs to be at this time."

There is currently no timetable to name a replacement for Coach Coleman and the team is not currently accepting any applications. "You can't just quickly replace a coaching talent like Marcus Coleman. We have to ensure that we bring in a person that will continue our vision as an organization and hold this team to the highest of standards. At this time, we do not know when, or even if, we will open the coaching search. We have a few highly qualified candidates in-house that we are going to look at first to fill this void on an interim basis in 2021. We feel strongly that keeping the continuity of what we started is very important, especially considering the circumstances that the sport itself faced during 2020 and surely will face in 2021," said Kertis.

Ending his toughest on the situation Kertis said, "Coach Coleman expressed a desire to keep the door open to returning if circumstances were to change, and we will do just that. We wish Marcus and his wife Lisa nothing but the best and we hope that out paths will cross again in the very near future; we love them and they have grown to be very good friends of ours and are amazing people."
