Hamilton Nationals News Release
When Joe Walters landed Sunday at Greater Rochester International Airport, he received a tweet that made his day. The Hamilton Nationals midfielder, fresh off a hat trick in the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, received a clip of his behind-the-back goal that was No. 9 on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10.
"I got it from a friend. It was the first I saw it and it was pretty cool," said the MLL's leading assist man. "It's great for our sport to get any kind of exposure. To be in the Top 10 with baseball, football and basketball helps elevate our sport."
Walters' featured goal came at 3:36 of the second quarter off an assist from Rochester Rattlers Jordan MacIntosh. The Nationals star fired the ball over his left shoulder and bounced it past Drew Adams of the New York Lizards for his first of the night. Walters scored twice more Saturday to help Team Supernova to a 24-15 win over Eclipse.
Walters was making the sixth All-Star appearance of his career. The midfielder is currently second on the Nationals with 33 points and leads the MLL with 18 assists. The Nationals are in second place in the MLL with a 7-3 record, and are on the cusp of securing a playoff berth.
Hamilton is back in action on Saturday, July 20th when it hosts the Ohio Machine at 7:30 p.m. For tickets go to www.nationalslacrosse.com or call the Nationals Ticket Office at (905) 525-NATS.
This season in the NLL, Walters won his second straight Champion's Cup. In the title game, he netted the game-winning goal in an 11-10 victory over the Washington Stealth.
