June 5, 2012 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Hamilton Nationals News Release
Hamilton Nationals midfielder Joe Walters was named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week, as his return to the outdoor game fueled the Nationals to an 18-17 victory over the Charlotte Hounds.
"We had a great team win and the guys certainly helped me out tonight," said Walters. "I was impressed to see the team finally come together. I hope this is the first of many wins to come."
Making his season debut, he scored four goals and added four assists Saturday night. Walters tallied five of his game-high eight points in the second half as the Nationals snapped their season-opening three-game losing streak. His eight points tied a team single-game record and his final goal moved him into first place on the team's all-time goal-scoring list with 45.
Walters, who missed the Nationals' first three games while leading the Rochester Knighthawks to the National Lacrosse League championship, was Hamilton's leading scorer last year with 39 points. He recorded 18 goals, including a two-point marker, while setting a team record with 20 assists.
The Hamilton Nationals will return home on Saturday, June 9th to host the Rochester Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. at McMaster University. For ticket information, contact the Nationals Ticket Office at (905) 768-2225.
