Wade Morehead steps down from CBA; Accepts Senior position with WNBA

May 13, 2005 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

Boise, ID (May 13, 2005) — Continental Basketball Association Deputy Commissioner Wade Morehead, who has served in this capacity for the past four years and worked in the CBA League Office for 11 seasons, has resigned to accept the position of Senior Director of Basketball Operations for the WNBA, it was announced today by CBA Commissioner Gary Hunter.

"Wade has been an invaluable asset to the CBA and has contributed greatly to its growth and success," stated Hunter. "We will miss his leadership, but wish him well in his new endeavor."

Hunter stated that no immediate replacement has been announced, but the CBA is currently accepting applications and interviewing candidates. The Commissioner added that Morehead will assist with the transition through the end of May.

"There are so many wonderful aspects of the CBA, including the quality of basketball, the passionate fans, and the dedicated personnel working league-wide in all capacities," stated Morehead, who joined the CBA in November of 1994 after earning a Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee. "But my favorite aspect is the role the League plays for coaches, players, and administrators who develop their trade skills and advance their careers within the CBA or elsewhere.

"The success stories are what I have enjoyed the most in my 11 years in the League, and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had in the CBA."

As the oldest professional basketball league in the world, the CBA tips-off its 60th anniversary season in November, 2005. Over the past two seasons, the CBA has featured 34 CBA-to-NBA call-ups, more than any other competing professional basketball league.

With the addition of the expansion Albany Patroons, who rejoins the League with its rich CBA history, the professional basketball league now stretches from New York to Yakima, Washington.
