VSiN Weekly Point Spread Week 6

May 17, 2018 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Empire is easily the most improved team from Week 1 to today, and a lot has to do with Joe Hills. I've covered his fantastic offensive numbers, and as you can see in the previous write-up, he's coming off back-to-back games in which he toasted the Washington secondary. However, his presence is huge for his fellow wideouts as well. Look no further than Malachi Jones, who erupted for six catches, 120 yards and two scores last week against the Valor. This offense, led by Tommy Grady at quarterback, is getting better each week, and I think it is more than capable of getting the best of Philadelphia's defense in this game.

On the other side, the Empire defense was already one of the better units in the Arena Football League. Now that it has an offense to keep it off the field, expect big things. However, this will be a great test in the Soul, a team coming off its worst performance of the season; a disjointed 31-21 loss to the Brigade. Two weeks after signal-caller Dan Raudabaugh and the offense were hassled into four turnovers, the Soul would prefer to face a much less formidable front. Philadelphia will most likely improve on the paltry seven points scored in the second-half of that Brigade loss, so you should see a more high-scoring affair this weekend.

But how high scoring exactly? That's the money question, literally. I will say in the range of a 48-42 final score. That gives the 'dog and the under as a selection this week. To me, the number of 10.5 is really quite large, and is reminiscent of the Albany team that took the field in Week 1. This is not your grandfather's Empire, so snatch up the double-digits, take the under and tune in for what will most likely be the game of the week.

VON TOBEL'S PICK: Albany, Under
