Orlando, Fla. - (August 2, 2006) - Sham Maharaj, investor/operator of the Major Indoor Soccer League's (MISL) new Orlando team and president of Buena Vista Corporation, announced today that the naming of the MISL team will be placed into the hands, or more correctly, the computer mice of the Central Florida community. By logging into www.orlandomisl.com, Central Floridians and sports fans everywhere, can cast their ballots for their favorite team name via the Internet.
"Excitement for the new team has been building throughout the community since our announcement in April," said Maharaj. "We hope that the tens of thousands of sports fans and athletes across Central Florida will take advantage of this opportunity to play an important role in the development of their new team."
A Web site has been created for fans to visit and cast their vote for one of ten pre-selected names, including the Barracudas, the Fightin' Fire Ants, the Pirates, the Swamp Dragons, the Terminators, the Thunderbolts, the T-rex, the Xtreme, the Swashbucklers and the Werewolves. Fans may also submit their own team name inspiration to be considered.
"Team names are often extensions of the community's personality, personifications of local wildlife, fearsome creatures or reflections of the sport itself," explained Rich Bradley, team president, and vice president of Buena Vista Sports & Entertainment. "Whichever criteria fans use, we will walk away with an identity that the Central Florida community has embraced and has declared their own."
The team name that receives the most votes will have a logo designed before being revealed to the general public in the fall of 2006. The soon-to-be-named team will debut in the 2007-08 MISL regular season, commencing with its Opening Night Gala in November 2007.
Fans who visit the site also have the option to participate in the team's first sweepstakes, "Orlando's Kickin'", where they can win some of the first-issued team merchandise, tickets to the Opening Night Gala, invitations to a private team VIP reception and a grand prize trip to the team's first away game in the fall of 2007.
