Vancouver Volcanoes News Release
WARNER PACIFIC COLLEGE-- The Vancouver Volcanoes finished up their second game against The USA All Stars with another easy win. The game was another chance for the coaches to work out any remaining kinks and get the players comfortable with each other on the court. Not suited up, but in attendance, was Alex Tiefenthaler, from what looked to be a sore ankle. Andre Murray, Kevin Bloodsaw, Bryson McKenzie, Damon King and Gary Muzzy started off the game, again jumping off to an early lead, and scoring 42 points while holding The All Stars to a mere 14 in the first quarter.
The offense looked to be coming along nicely, with the players quickly rotating the ball around the entire court. Andre Murray was able to draw the fouls and get the and 1 in the first half. As usual, The Volcanoes were able to either get the ball to the Forwards for the easy layin, or speedily run to the hoop, dodging defenders, for the Guards to put it in.
The second half favored more shots taken from outside the key by both teams. The All Stars showed a little improvement in the 2nd quarter and were able to put up a respectable 31 points. The Volcanoes, as was the case last night, were able to amass around 35 to 40 points-a-quarter. They put up 33 in the second. Both sides gathered five team fouls rather early in the 2nd quarter, so a lot of time was spend at the foul line. The half came to a close with the score being Volcanoes, 75 and The All Stars, 45.
By the latter half of the 3rd quarter, The Volcanoes were able to reach triple digits. The leader in scoring was Andre Murray, who scored 41 points, gave away six assists and got one block. Interceptions of the ball were made quite often-- with many near steals. Kevin Bloodsaw and Itrelle Lambert gained three steals and five assists each. The defense, like last night, was impenetrable. The Centers were able to get a hand on shots, denying All Star points and gobbled up rebounds, with both Bryson McKenzie and Devin Uskoski getting eight defensively.
The fourth quarter was a chance for showmanship. Nears its end, Cliff White dunked over an All Stars' defender one handedly. He got the points, but a technical foul was called against The Volcanoes when Bloodsaw stepped too far onto the court in celebration. No more than a minute of game time later, White found himself in an almost replicate situation but could not get the score. The game came to a close with the final score being Volcanoes, 145 and The All Stars, 79. With these wins, The Volcanoes should enter into their home-opener fully geared. The Game will be held at Clark College against The Yamhill Highflyers. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
