Volcanoes take down Slam

March 30, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

Vancouver, WA - - Playing their second game in as many nights, the Bellingham Slam could not overcome a slow start as they lost to the Vancouver Volcanoes, 120-112, in an International Basketball League game Saturday in Vancouver. After starting the game down 17-7 after the first six minutes, the Slam were able to rally and used hot-shooting in the second quarter to take a 61-59 lead into halftime. Guard Jacob Stevenson led the way for the Slam in the first half with 25 points. But Vancouver's defense came alive after halftime, holding the Slam to just 17 points in the third quarter and allowing the Volcanoes to take a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter, at 92-78. The late deficit proved too much for the Slam to overcome, though Bellingham was able to get the lead down to five points with 1:10 left to play. But the Slam couldn't get the defensive stops necessary to get any closer. Jacob Stevenson finished with a game high 31 points, though just six of those came in the second half. Guard Ryan Diggs contributed his second straight double-double with 24 points and 10 assists. Guard Kevin Bloodsaw led a trio of 20-point scorers for Vancouver with 22 points. Guard Kevin Tyner and forward Jake Carlisle added 21 points each. The Volcanoes dominated the Slam on the boards, out-rebounding the Slam by a 54-36 margin.
