Vancouver Volcanoes News Release
Vancouver, WA - The Volcanoes protect home court on a second half comeback versus rival Portland Chinooks taking the win away from the visitors.
"We decided to play defense in the second half, and our offensive execution got better," Volcanoes Head Coach Joe Navarro said about the way the Volcanoes went about protecting home court to get the win and move to 3-0 for the season as they look towards a trip to Los Angeles this coming weekend. Down 22 points at halftime many fans in the stands weren't sure if their home team would be able to pull out the win.
In his first appearance as a pro, 6'6" F Adam Herman fresh off the college court from Concordia University made quite an impression putting up 27 points. "There is no answer for Chehales missing in the line up, Adam is a little bit different player, but they are similar, they are both undersized posts. Adam is so versatile, he just scores a lot of different ways and he does not stop playing his motor is awesome!" the Head Coach boasted.
"It was a good win," Herman stated, "we were down by a lot at the half, but we got in the locker room, stuck together and came out and got it done in the second half. Going pro feels good, I always wished for that next step and plan to keep it going," the Rookie shared.
6'2" G Andre Murray kept up his scoring in win number three for the home team, putting up 31 points and 13 rebounds in the 128-124 win over the Chinooks in the Battle of the Bridge as it was tagged. "Murray does it every night," said confident Coach in his All Star, "he plays within himself and ends up with 30 points, I have never seen a player do that, he doesn't really go out and force things, things just come to him and he gets it, he is the best finisher I have ever seen, he just scores layups at will."
The Chinooks lost the third quarter to the Volcanoes outscored by 19, then by 7 in the fourth and just didn't have enough to keep the lead and take home the win, they move to 3-1.
"Right now it's about us, it is not about who we play, we had a really bad first half and hopefully they learned to play together and to play with defense, it is about us figuring ourselves out, Navarro added.
