Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

Vancouver, WA - It was a Slam lead all the way tonight at Clark College, where the Volcanoes put up a good fight, but took their second loss in a row at home, 134-122

One of the key points going in for the Volcanoes was playing defense, Coach Navarro knew if they did not stay on their best defense they would not get the win. "We didn't execute defensively, we are down three starters, its not an excuse, our chemistry is a bit off right now, but it is good for us to do this right now, the learning curve it getting a lot better. Nobody likes to lose, we always use it as something we can learn from, we know what we need to work on and we will go up there and play better defensively," the bench boss explained about the Memorial Day match up.

Although the oldest player in the league and 2013 IBL Defensive Player of the Year, 6'5" F Kevin 'Pip' Bloodsaw did his best to contain Mo (Morris Anderson), it wasn't enough to stop the shots from falling. "He does a good job with Mo, that match up motivates him, we had some success with it early, then they hit some threes," Navarro noted.

Murray put up 34 points to help his team get the win, some of the shots looking like a Cirque du Soleil show, with 9 rebounds and 9 assists, just shy of a triple double, but couldn't get the job done at home tonight, "He scores in a lot of different ways and he's a hard match up," the Head Coach shared about his star player 6'2" Andre Murray. "Our offense is really geared towards going inside and pounding it into the big fellas, and Andre get's a lot of his points in transition."

The Volcanoes will now look at the road game up in Bellingham for a win against the Slam. The only team to beat the Slam in their house in two years was the Portland Chinooks earlier in the season.

"We are going to concentrate on ourselves, work on our defensive schemes and work on ways to keep them off the boards and trying to maintain our tempo. Bellingham does a good job running at their tempo and playing within themselves. We have to do something to disrupt that."

Next home game for the Volcanoes is next Saturday, May 31st against the Seattle Flight, featuring a halftime show by the Volcanoes Dancers with special guests. Admission at the door at Clark College Adults $7, Students under 18 and Seniors over 65 $3, Children Age 7 & under FREE!
