Vancouver Volcanoes News Release

VANCOUVER WASHINGTON-- The battle of the namesake comes to close with Vancouver B.C. on top three to one. The loss marks the first time The Volcanoes have been defeated with a home court advantage. A large reason in the game's outcome was the fact that The Volcanoes' shot only 44% from the field; this is below their usual average of around 50%. Conversely, The Vancouver Titans shot 51% from the same distances.

"They shot the ball great," coach Bryan Hunter said.

"We had no response to that until the fourth quarter. We put a new defense together in the third that came together, and we were able to hold them to their lowest [percentage] in the fourth."

The Volcanoes were indeed able to deflate B.C.'s lead significantly. They went into the fourth down by 26 points, but were able to end it with pride, losing by only seven. They outscored B.C. by 19 points in the game's final quarter.

"If we would have made those changes early on, the game would have turned out a lot different," Hunter said.

Lead scoring on The Volcanoes' side went to Andre Murray with18, Bryson McKenzie with 20 and Alex Tiefenthaler with 25. But the consistency on the opposing bench proved to squelching to Volcano morale. Only one player, Galen Young, shot in the single digits. The Titans' shot 50% from 3-point range, opposed to a Volcano 32%. B.C. was also reliable at the foul line, shooting an impressive 67%, even in the face of much antagonism from Volcano fans.

Tomorrow night, The Volcanoes go up against The Olympia Rain. This unfortunate loss is no spirit breaker, however. The team's rallying ability proves to be unquenchable--again and again.
