Vegas Vipers News Release
The Vegas Vipers fell, 18-6, to the DC Defenders on Saturday at Cashman Field. The Vipers started the game going three-and-out but forced a turnover on DC first possession of the game. DeAndre Torrey then punched in a two-yard touchdown to get the Vipers on the board and take an early 6-0 lead after the two-point conversion failed.
The remainder of the first half was a defensive showcase. During the middle of the second quarter, DC threatened to close the gap, but a fumble on the Vipers two-yard line, which was recovered by PJ Dawson, gave Vegas a 6-0 lead going into halftime.
The skies opened up in the second half, as rain poured on Cashman Field, but that didn't phase Matt McCrane as he nailed a 47-yard field goal to cut the deficit in half early in the third quarter.
The Defenders took the lead early in the fourth quarter when D'Eriq King rushed in a score from 12 yards out, giving DC a 10-6 advantage. About six minutes later, Abram Smith ran in a nine-yard score and King connected with Ethan Wolf for a two-point conversion to give DC an 18-6 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
The Vipers return to action next week and will host the Seattle Sea Dragons on Saturday, March 4 at Cashman Field.
