Cleveland Patriots News Release

Warrensville Heights, OH - In their second game of the season against the York Capitals the Cleveland Patriots pulled out an important AIF victory, 48-44. The win evens the Patriots season record to 1-1 and brings new Head Coach Fred Johnson his first victory. Johnson was promoted by team owner Brandon Ikard leading into the game this week against York. "I feel that Fred is more than deserving of the position. He has done everything I could have ever asked of a coach thus far and has an extensive knowledge of the game."

It was obvious that Johnson had what it takes to lead the organization as the Patriots were not only able to move the ball during the game but recorded huge defensive stops during the game. After the game it was easy to see who the Player of the Game was, LB Joe Mackowski. Joe Mak, to his teammates, accounted for two touchdowns during the game. He first gave the Patriots a boost with a kickoff return for a touchdown and then followed that up with a huge INT which he also returned for a touchdown. Offensively the Patriots had a huge game from their QB DJ Barney. Barney accounted for a total of 6 touchdowns 4 passing and 2 rushing. When asked about his team's performance Johnson stated, "It was a strong win! We really had some guys step up to the plate and get us on the right track heading into the bye week. We are a young team and it takes performances like Joe Mak gave us to win on the road. We do have a long way to go to get where we need to be, but we hit the bye week on a good note. We are now looking forward to our home stand the next few weeks. We can now assess where we are and use the time to get healthy and develop our playoff push! I'm very proud of our performance this week but expect an even better one in two weeks when Washington comes to town."

The Patriots have a BYE this week and will take on the Washington Eagles at home in the Word Multiplex in Warrensville Heights, OH on Saturday, April 12 at 7:05pm. For more information on your Cleveland Patriots visit www.clevelandpatriotsfootball.com.
