Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, December 22)... Rochester Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres announced today that the team has re-signed 2011 National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Year Pat McCready to a one-year deal.

"We are really glad he is coming back. Obviously, winning a league award shows he can still play at the highest level," said Knighthawks Assistant GM Landon Miller about McCready, who was contemplating retirement. "With a young, aggressive team, Pat's leadership will go a long way on and off the floor."

McCready captured the award after completing his sixth season with the Knighthawks. In 2011, he earned his second appearance in an NLL All-Star Game and also earned starting and alternate captain duties for the first time in his career. McCready also shared team Defensive Player of the Year honors with Sid Smith.

The St. Catharines, Ontario, native reached career milestones by playing in his 200th professional game and recording his 1,400th loose ball. He led the team with 101 loose balls and notched 18 points in 15 games, which was second among league defensemen.

"It feels great," said McCready about re-signing. "I am ready to come back and try to bring a title to Rochester."

Entering his 17th season in the NLL, McCready ranks in the league's Top 10 in four individual categories. He ranks third all-time in loose balls (1,499), second in penalty minutes (430) and ninth in games played (203). For his career, he has 366 points (136+230) and two NLL Championship rings: 1997 with Rochester and 2008 with Buffalo.

This summer, McCready captured a bronze medal at the 2011 Presidents' Cup as a member of the St. Catharines Saints. He collected one goal and one assist in the bronze medal game to finish the playoffs with 11 points (5+6) in seven games. He was rewarded with a selection to the First Team All-Star Team.

The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday, January 21st against the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks are holding their Millionth Fan Promotion, which includes a trip for two to Las Vegas (hotel, airfare and $2,000 cash). Knighthawks individual tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, and at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office or by calling 1-800-745-3000.
