Amarillo Venom News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - As the Venom progress toward the middle of the 2014 campaign, the defending champions bring in three players to add depth to the roster. Those signed are quarterback John David Baker, defensive back DeAndre Bonner and wide receiver Darnel Williams.

Recently finishing his college career with Abilene Christian University, Baker led the Wildcats with 3,376 passing yards and 35 touchdowns in his lone campaign as starter quarterback. Baker also rushed for five touchdowns for ACU, as the San Angelo native acquired the single-season school record for touchdowns as well as the fourth best single-season total passing yards in school history. The six foot, 205 pound quarterback was one of the three student-athletes selected for the 2013-14 Paul Goad Award, which honors the top Abilene Christian student-athletes for the academic year.

On the other side of the ball, DeAndre Bonner recently finished his college career with Arkansas Tech, where he was a third-team All-American for the Wonder Boys. Playing in all 11 games and starting in eight in the 2013 season, Bonner led the team with seven interceptions, including one being taken back for a touchdown. The Duncanville, Texas native started his college career at Lon Morris Community College in Jacksonville, Texas before finishing strong with Arkansas Tech.

Williams comes to the Amarillo Venom from Brooklyn, N.Y., where he spent the latter half of his college career with the LIU-Post Pioneers in 2009 and 2010. Williams would lead the team in touchdown receptions in 2009 and 2010, with nine and 12 respectively.

All three players could very well be seeing playing time, as the Venom will travel to San Angelo on May 19 to avenge an early season loss to the Bandits. The Venom will also host the away game watch parties at Joe Daddy's, located at 2108 Paramount Blvd in Amarillo. The away game watch party will begin at 5:45 p.m., as the Monday night showdown between the two teams begin at 6:05 p.m.

The Amarillo Venom are a proud member of the Lone Star Football League. For more information and tickets, contact the Amarillo Venom office at (806) 350-7277.
