Amarillo Venom News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - After taking a mid-season rest, the Amarillo Venom (4-4, LSFL) will start its push toward the playoffs in hosting the West Texas Wildcatters (1-8, LSFL) at the Cal Farley Coliseum on June 7. This begins a four game stretch which includes a trip to Rio Grande Valley, a home bout against San Angelo and a final battle with West Texas at Odessa to conclude the season.

In the last meeting between the two Lone Star Football League franchises, the Venom put up 73 points and a victory against the Wildcatters at Cal Farley Coliseum on April 26.

Leading the Amarillo Venom into the contest will be quarterback Kevin Lauchland, wide receiver/defensive back Donta Bright and offensive lineman/defensive lineman Thomas Stubbs.

Despite running into a rough 2014 debut against the New Mexico Stars, Lauchland has been stellar in his outings with the Amarillo Venom in 2013. Lauchland will be looking to make a statement against a defense that allowed 107 points and 40 points against San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley respectively.

Another player to watch for would be Bright, who made his 2014 debut with a two interception and blocked field goal performance that sparked life back into the Venom defense. Bright, who has a history of making big plays, promised on May 24 that he would shut down the West Texas receivers.

Finally, another spark to the Venom defense is Stubbs, who disrupted the passing game and hauled a pair of sacks against New Mexico on May 24. Fresh from Lindenwood University of St. Charles, Mo., Stubbs played as both a wide receiver and defensive end for the Lions.

While they sit at last place in the LSFL, the Wildcatters possess players that are not to be overlooked. Aiding West Texas in their cause will be quarterback Kyle Jech, running back/wide receiver Dennis Morris and wide receiver Sedrick Johnson.

Jech, from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, was four year starter for the Rangers and held the single-season and career leader in completions and passing yards. Jech also had previously played for the Rochester Raiders of the American Indoor Football League before going to Odessa, where he started with a 20-28, 219 yards and six touchdown performance against San Angelo on May 26. However, Jech encounter some trouble against Rio Grande Valley on May 31, where he was 8-27 while yielding three picks and two sacks.

Aiding Jech will be Dennis Morris, who previously spent time with the Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers before joining the Wildcatters.

Along with Jech and Morris, Sedrick Johnson will be looking to return in a big way against the Venom. Johnson, a former Iowa State Cyclone and member of the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm, brought in ten passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns in his previous game against the Amarillo Venom. While sitting out against Rio Grande Valley, Johnson was able to churn out some stats against the San Angelo Bandits on May 26, catching six passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

While the Venom will battle the Wildcatters, the Amarillo side will don throwback uniforms for Texas Gold Rush night. Also, the Venom will be offering $10 tickets and mini gold footballs in effort to "˜Pack the Pit' and push the homestanding Venom in the chase for the LSFL playoffs.

The Amarillo Venom are a proud member of the Lone Star Football League. For more information and tickets, contact the Amarillo Venom office at (806) 350-7277.
