Amarillo Venom News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - After taking a midseason bye week, the Amarillo Venom (3-3, LSFL) will travel to San Angelo to avenge an early season loss to the Bandits (4-3, LSFL). The second of three contests between the two rivals will take place at the Foster Communications Coliseum in San Angelo on May 19 at 6:05 p.m.

Leading the two-time defending LSFL champions into hostile territory will be quarterback Kevin Lauchland, fullback/linebacker Undre Hendrix and defensive back Mike Maldonado. Despite a rough 2014 debut against New Mexico, Lauchland has had a history of strong play when called into action by the Venom.

Aiding Lauchland will be Hendrix, who has been dubbed "The Wrecking Ball" due to acquiring 10 touchdowns and 57 rushing yards thus far in the 2014 campaign. Hendrix's numbers have placed him as the second leading rusher in the league, behind Rio Grande Valley's Nate Davis. On the defensive side of the ball, Maldonado is second in the Lone Star Football League with four interceptions, including three against the New Mexico Stars.

For the home standing Bandits, they will be led by quarterback Luke Collis, wide receiver Lamans Casimier and defensive back DeMarcus James. Collis, an Occidental College product, is currently third in the league with 861 passing yards, 20 touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns. Casimier, who played with the now defunct Corpus Christi Hammerheads in 2012 and the Abilene Bombers in 2013, has had a huge year with 40 receptions for 466 yards and 13 touchdowns. Casimier also returned two kickoff returns for touchdowns thus far in the 2014 season.

On defense, DeMarcus James has brought in 22 solo tackles, seven assisted tackles and three interceptions in favor of the Bandits.

The players to keep an eye on during the game are newly acquired players for both teams. For San Angelo, it is the signing of indoor football veteran and offensive lineman Chris Brown. The six foot two inch and adds to an already bulky offensive line anchoring the Bandits.

Amarillo, on the other hand, will get to see newly signed defensive back DeAndre Bonner in action, who recently stood out for the Arkansas Tech. Bonner was also a 2013 third-team All American who led the Wonder Boys with seven interceptions, including one pick-six during his senior season.
