Amarillo Venom News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - On May 24, the Amarillo Venom (3-4, LSFL) will return to the Cal Farley Coliseum against the New Mexico Stars (4-4, LSFL) at 7:05 p.m. While this will be the final regular season game between the two LSFL franchises, the Venom enter a critical game and seek to even the season series at two games apiece.

On the last two meetings, the New Mexico Stars were able to take advantage of Venom turnovers, dropping the Venom 70-49 in Rio Rancho, N.M. on April 19 and 61-37 in Amarillo on May 3. The Venom took the first game of the series, 63-21 on March 14.

To help rectify the ship, the Venom will rely on the progress of quarterback John David Baker. Before leaving the game with an injury, the San Angelo native put up impressive numbers, going 10-16 and rushing for two touchdowns against the San Angelo Bandits.

On the other hand, Stars quarterback Andrew McGlory has played his best against the Amarillo Venom this season. However, McGlory had come back to earth in his last outing against the Venom, had going 14-25 with four passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and three picks.

Another set of players to keep an eye on will be Amarillo wide receivers DJ Beshears and Raymond Johnson, along with New Mexico Star wide receiver duo of Jerome McGee and Dexter Manley.

For Beshears, the Kansas product will be returning to the lineup after sitting out against San Angelo while Johnson will seek to put up bigger numbers against a familiar foe.

The Stars will lean heavily on the play of McGee, who caught five passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns in his last meeting against the Venom. Manley will be looking to make a statement as well, aiming to expand on his stellar performance against West Texas on May 10. This was before the Stars were dealt with a tough loss to Rio Grande Valley.

The Venom will attempt to clamp down on defense, seeking to improve on a one interception, two sack performance against San Angelo on May 19. To do so, the Venom defense will look to capitalize on turnovers and put pressure on New Mexico quarterback Andrew McGlory. The Venom aim to lock in the final playoff spot with the help of a favorable upcoming schedule.

New Mexico will also work to improve on a dismal performance on May 17, tumbling to a 78-48 loss to the league-leading Rio Grande Valley Sol. This loss also saw their three winning streak snapped, putting their playoff hopes up for grabs against the Venom.
