Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Duke City Gladiators came out of the gate to score 20 points in the first quarter Saturday night and held the Venom in check most of the first half, entering the locker room at the break, leading Amarillo, 33-10 in front of a sparse crowd at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, NM.

The second half seemed like a day at the Coliseum of old, as the Venom showed the heart of a lion and fought back to come within 2-points of the Gladiators, 31-33, with 10:29 to play in the game. Despite outscoring Duke City 28-12 in the second half, it wasn't enough as Amarillo lost by a final score of 45-38.

Among the Venom notable performances were Tenner Martee's 100 all-purpose yards (31 rushing, 69 kick return), Raymond Johnson, Jr. had 13 pass receptions for 113 yards and quarterback Nate Davis finished the night 24-47-1 and 2 TDs. Kicker Jacob Felton had another solid game, going 4-4 in PAT attempts, and 3-4 in field goal attempts, his only miss being a 45-yard effort that was blocked. It should be noted Felton made attempts of 28, 42 and 43 yards. His on-side kicks also proved instrumental in Amarillo's come back efforts.

The Venom are back home Saturday to host league-leader Dodge City. Kickoff set for 7:05pm, Coors Light Field, Civic Center Coliseum. The theme will be Education Night. Special pricing just for educators and free kid's replica jerseys for the first 500 kids through the gates. Learn more at GoVenom.com or call 806-350-7277.
