Amarillo Venom head coach Julian Reese is going to speak to students from the Amarillo Independent School District at an event that prepares high school juniors for life after high school and asks the question: "Are you Ready for the Real World -

"The purpose of the event is to get our juniors thinking about what they want to do when they get out of high school," Denise Blanchard, program director for community partnerships at Amarillo ISD, said. "We have 36 different sessions just on careers."

Reese will be speaking specifically on the career of professional sports. Reese has an extensive history in the sport of history getting his start at Indiana State University before coming to Amarillo in 2004 while the team was still called the Dusters. Playing as quarterback, Reese led the Dusters to a championship in 2006. Taking over as interim coach during the 2011 season, Reese led the Venom to 4-0. Reese was then hired as Head Coach for the 2012 season, and won his first championship as head coach.

"I am going to be speaking to them about the possibility of playing professional sports," Reese said. "I want it to be an eye-opener for them and help them see what it takes to be a professional athlete. I want them to also know how important school is, because not everyone gets to be a professional athlete."

Ready for the Real World is a partnership of Amarillo ISD and the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by Xcel Energy Foundation, Mays Foundation, Gilliland Family Foundation, and the Josephine Anderson Trust. The event will include representatives from Amarillo area businesses, AISD, Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University.

Ready for the Real World will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 1:30 p.m.
