The Vancouver Titans today announced that the organization has signed Richard Chambers as the team's first Head Coach. Chambers, the current National Women's Junior Team Head Coach and long-time Head Coach at Terry Fox High School in Coquitlam is well respected throughout the B.C. basketball community, and brings considerable energy, experience, and enthusiasm to the expansion Titans of the IBL. Chambers has also coached at both Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. Titans General Manager David Petroziello is satisfied that the Titan's hiring search returned the right man for the job in Chambers; Petroziello-"his experience and qualities as a coach were exactly what I was hoping to find in our Head Coach".

Richard Chambers-"I am very excited to be a part of this new professional sport organization-as it is time professional basketball returned to British Columbia. I know that the Titans organization will do a wonderful job developing a competitive team and creating an exciting basketball atmosphere".

GM Petroziello says-that he shares a vision with Chambers to fill their roster with young, Canadian talent-"given our organization's commitment to offering the best Canadian talent a domestic professional outlet, I felt it was vital that we find a coach who is familiar with the best and brightest athletes in B.C. and as well-the rest of Canada... with over 30 years of coaching experience behind him, (head coach) Rich's contacts and knowledge of the game are second to none; he is definitely the coach we need as we build our organization".

Vancouver Titans announce tryout

Vancouver Titans General Manager and Director of Basketball Operations David Petroziello announced that the Titans-an expansion team in the International Basketball League-will hold a free agent camp at the end of November as part of their player identification process. The camp will give prospective Titans players their first crack at impressing the Titans new Head Coach and General Manager. Recently hired Head Coach Rich Chambers will be present. Said Head Coach Rich Chambers, "We are very excited to see and evaluate the caliber of athletes that are interested in pursuing a pro career with the Vancouver Titans." GM Petroziello expects there to be a good turnout at the camp.-"we have received an impressive number of inquiries over the past few months regarding our upcoming season, and I expect there to be a good number of athletes at the camp". Petroziello insists that the 2009 Titans roster will not be filled after November 23rd, but rather that this camp is one step in an ongoing player identification process-"this camp is an opportunity for local guys who think they can play at this level to come out and show us what they have to offer; if we can identify a handful of players from this camp, I will consider it a success".

The day-long camp will be held on Sunday November 23rd at Simon Fraser University (west gym). Registration will open at 10:30am, with on court activities running from 11:30 until 4:30pm. Players are encouraged to pre-register for the camp by contacting GM David Petroziello. Cost is $40.
