February 3, 2004 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
Tom Van Schaack, an 18-year veteran of professional baseball, was named the 3rd general manager in Red Barons history yesterday afternoon by a 5-0 vote of the Stadium Authority.
Van Schaack, 40, joins the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons after spending the previous nine seasons as the Assistant General Manager of the Syracuse SkyChiefs in the International League.
Prior to joining the SkyChiefs, Van Schaack worked for the Duluth-Superior Dukes, Sarasota White Sox, Watertown Indians, Richmond Braves and the Burlington Indians.
"I'm excited and looking forward to the new challenges that this job presents," said Van Schaack. "I'm eager to be a part of a great Red Barons staff and to roll up my sleeves and get started."
Authority Chairman Bill Jenkins added, "He had all the right answers. We were impressed by each and every candidate we interviewed. But we felt really comfortable with Tom's experience."
Van Schaack takes over for Rick Muntean who resigned December 2 to accept a position with the Kansas City T-Bones. Bill Terlecky was the club's first GM.
