USL Unveils Broadcast Schedule
February 17, 2003 - A-League (A-League) News Release
TAMPA, FL â United Soccer Leagues today unveiled its live 25-game 2003 Fox Sports World broadcast schedule, which will feature 18 regular season and two playoff A-League matches. The schedule also includes the A-League, USL Pro Select League, Premier Development League and W-League championship matches and a Super Y-League Finals highlight show.
New developments include a regular weekly presence on Friday nights and increased airing in Canada.
"We were very pleased with the response we received to our first season of broadcasts on Fox Sports World," said Dave Askinas, USL Executive Director and COO. "We are thrilled to now be a regular live prime time Friday night feature on the destination channel for soccer fans. Fox Sports World is fast becoming one of the top sports networks. We are looking forward to adding more special features to the broadcasts and showing off our star players to fans in North America. And to have Fox Sports Canada pick up the entire A-League schedule is a fantastic development for our teams and fans north of the border who follow and support more than just their local teams. The A-League is very popular in Canada and we are happy to have a great showcase for our league as we expand our presence"
Fox Sports World Canada, which aired select matches featuring Canadian A-League teams last season, will broadcast the entire slate of A-League matches in 2003, including playoffs. Five of the 18 regular season games will feature Canadian clubs.
The schedule composition mirrors last season's, but will see a regular weekly presence on Friday nights at either 8:00 or 11:00 pm EST depending on the location of the match. In addition, each of the 19 A-League teams will be shown at least once during the season.
USL and Fox Sports International are in the second year of a five-year broadcast deal. Returning to call matches are play-by-play announcers Brad Feldman, Sean Wheelock and Paul Dolan.
